Book Description

Fire Rains From Above...

A Fracture Forms...

Jack Walker and the other survivors continue their search for others. Unbeknownst to them, the night runners have initiated their own gathering and, with Michael's leadership, they are adapting. The survivors learn about some of these adaptations and strive to stay one step ahead. Their very existence depends on it.

Factors enter the picture which could fracture both groups. Jack fights for the survival of humankind while Michael must do the same for the night runners. Heading off to search for other remnants of humanity, Jack is unaware of the danger that lurks in the heart of the sanctuary - an act of kindness, seemingly so small, that could bring about the destruction of all he holds dear.

While both sides fight for their very existence, an infatuation arises that could destroy the both of them.

2.0 out of 5 stars I kinda enjoyed it, But... January 9, 2013
By jon
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
First of all I kinda enjoyed the book, what little of it there was, but i had to deduct a couple of stars from this one for a few things. I think that the series has been gripping and extremely fun to read. This book however felt like a "money" book to me and what I mean by that is it seemed like filler with no content. Like he forcefully put words on paper. The plot moved forward at a snails pace and for a very short book, never good. He also started doing something that is just a personal pet pieve of mine and that is telling the same story from multiple angles of different people. Kinda works in the movies, not so much here, Its literally the same story just through someone elses eyes. Then you ad in "over describing" like 10 pages of a zombie crawling across the ground, or 7-8 pages of what a character is thinking in one moment, which is fine and well, but when you read that and realize "wow that was 10%" of the book on that single event. Then the whole book seemed anti-climatic from the cliff hanger that was left from the last one, but of course you have to leave this one on a cliff hanger, and that felt rushed and honestly, not very well thought out (pretty much the complete opposite this entire series has been). All that being said, I'll probably buy the next book, because the series as whole has been great, but if it is more of the same as this one, im done.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good read, but not as good as the previous December 28, 2012
By Jon
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
John, we have talked numerous occasions via e-mail regarding your books, and the release of Dissension, and as you know I have reviewed nearly every book in the series, so allow me to review the newest addition.

*****THIS REVIEW WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS, I WILL ANNOUNCE BEFORE DISCUSSING*****

Overall, I enjoyed Dissension. I waited for a long time for it to be released, e-mailing the author several times for updates. I was ecstatic to see, on Christmas Eve, that it was on Kindle. I had been checking nearly daily for a couple months, but for some reason the newest book didn't actually appear in the search results for over a week.

While Dissension was definitely a good read, I feel that it was not nearly as good as the previous books. There were bits which seemed over the top, bits that seemed rushed and not thought out, and overall I felt like the book was shorter than the previous books. While I would have rated every previous book between 4 and 5 stars, I can only give this one a 3, for the reasons below.

My first complaint with this is the direction of the story. I felt as if the author was trying to include too many story lines in one book, which prevented any real development on any of them.

I am not entirely sure how I feel about the advancements in the nightrunners abilities (i.e: talking), but I am willing to wait it out and see where it goes, I may like the end result.

Sandra is an odd situation. For some reason, she is drawn to Jack and wants him, while wanting to remove Lynn from the picture.

2.0 out of 5 stars After long wait for next in series - a disappointment January 23, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love this series, but the latest installment was a disappointment. The story is told from multiple points of view, which means the same event is told over and over again. Not only does this not advance the story, but it is not very interesting. Parts of the book felt like they were added just to add to the word count. It felt disjointed. I cannot give other criticism as it would spoil it for readers of the series. If you are a reader of the series, read it anyway as you will want to
know what happens to Jack and the gang, just know that it is not nearly as good as others in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars still a great adventure June 10, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As usual this was a great book and the adventure is still going strong and keeps me reading and waiting for more. This series was the series that really got me into this genre, and years after reading his first book in the series, I am still hooked and can't wait to see what is next!

5.0 out of 5 stars Book 6- June 9, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Just when I thought the night runners couldn't get more creepy. Shivers. These books have everything. Now we even have creepy and totally cool powers that are totally believable. I am so excited to read the next book!! Your time and money is well spent on these books.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so good. February 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have to agree with the most helpful review above by Jon, this book seemed to be a word quota by his use of covering the same event or what a character is thinking from different perspectives. First you get the night crawler going through an event, then its rewritten as another character saw it, leads to a slow repetitive story. If the next book is like this one it will be the last book I buy, the first several books were great, this one is a huge disappointment due to the repetitive nature and how short it is, it hardly advanced the story at all. The writer must of wanted some money fast....

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't read this fast enough! August 9, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I just finished reading this book, and quickly ordered the next one in the series to find out what happens next. I could feel the excitement growing in the end and felt that I couldn't read fast enough to catch up with what was going on in the story. I absolutely love this series and am so grateful that I was introduced to it. Thank you John O'Brien for writing such a fast paced, exciting series!

I couldn't give 5 stars because there was a rushed feeling. The story line felt chaotic and strained. I did however like the twist given to the night runners. Read more
