5.0 out of 5 stars Great Great game, December 25, 2004

This is a great realistic team base first person shooter. However you do need to have a good computer. I am running a 3.0Ghz with 512MB and a geforce graphics card and this game runs great. The guns are real life weapons and not futureristic (which I hate). You also can't beat the price. If you like first person shooters and are looking for a great game at bargain price go buy this.

Let me start out by saying I have only played this in the single player mode, although it does have a multiplayer mode as well.

I would consider this a fairly low end game even when it was released in 2003. When you load it, you'll probably want to track down the patches. There are a lot of them, but some are redundant. I think I installed two. The first took the game from version 1.2 to 1.4 and the second took it from 1.4 to 1.5. I saw patches that took the game to 1.31, 1.4, 1.41, 1.42, 1.43, and 1.5.

The game did lock up my computer several times, requiring a reboot to get it unstuck. While I rarely have that happen (and I play a lot of FPS games), it wasn't so often that it ruined the fun of playing.

The game consists of about 12 missions. Each mission consists of killing all the bad guys and another task such as rescuing someone or defusing a bomb. You must defuse the bombs within a time limit, but then you can finish the rest of the mission at your leisure.

At the beginning of each level, you have to equip the main character. You select pistols, sub machine guns, shotguns, explosives, and ammo up to a weight limit. You also always have a default pistol. There is no way to restore your health, so you die after your health is completely depleted by being shot.

The game has no user saves or check points. Once you complete a mission, it unlocks the next mission, but if you die, you need to start the mission over from the beginning. One annoying thing is that you have to re-equip your character every time your restart a mission. It's not a long process, but the repetition is irritating.

There are three difficulty levels. I played on normal and found the game to be reasonably challenging, having to restart every level at least a couple times after being killed. I don't know how many hours I played to get through it, but I considered the game to be on the short side. If you went through all the levels without getting killed and having to restart, you could probably get through it in a few hours at most.

Graphics are probably about average or below for it's 2003 release date. Character movement was acceptable, but I did find it easy to get snagged going around certain obstacles. Going up and down ladders was tricky because it's particularly easy to slide sideways on the ladder unless you're paying attention.

Missions end after you diffuse the bombs (in 2 or 3 missions) and kill all the bad guys. I guess it assumes that once you've killed the bad guys, it's a piece of cake to go grab the guy you're supposed to rescue, so it doesn't make you do that if you haven't done it already.

Overall, I would rate this experience as below average, but still enjoyable if you're not expecting too much and can get the game cheap. I paid $8 and didn't feel ripped off. Keep in mind it's an old game and you'll probably have fun with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Incredible realism, May 28, 2004

Upside- One of the best action games around that will glue your behind to the chair until you kill off all the terorists!
Downside- THIS IS NOT FOR KIDS 16 AND UNDER! EXTREMELY VIOLENT. In addition, the game will suck up a ton of RAM and may not operate well on slow low RAM computers. Nevertheless, even with the hassles, a fantastic game to play!!
