2.0 out of 5 stars So-So
I just received this CD from a friend for my birthday. I did happen to catch PC3 during the Third Day tour and I could barely understand any of their words so I was very unimpressed with them in concert. The album is better because I can read through the lyrics in the insert, however, I still don't find this album to be much of a breakthrough as far as a fresh sound...

Paul Colman Trio have been rocking around Australia for three or four years and have gathered themselves acclaim all over our grouse country. Now, we're not bitter that you Yanks have snaffled our funky band, but I hope their wonderful message has its full impact over there.

This album is primarily a collection of the songs from the two studio albums PC3 released in Australia, but includes a handful of brand new songs (which most fans will have heard on their last pre-America tour).

But that's CERTAINLY nothing against the album; these songs are wonderful and to get this much quality material on one CD is a luxury. Turn, the first single, is already doing well and I'm glad to hear it.

The reason I love PC3 so much is because of their message; it's not just your average re-hashed Gospel message. These guys are really contemporary in the way they see Jesus in this world. He's here. He understands the world. He's worldly-wise. Let's follow him effectively while we're here. Amen.

Paul, Grant, Phil: onya Aussies!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Debut, August 16, 2002
This review is from: New Map of the World (Audio CD)
One of the most impressive new acts of 2002 is Paul Colman Trio (PC3), who's first album, New Map of the World, can be found on the same label that launched Jars of Clay, Third Day and FFH among others. Hailing from Australia, PC3 deliver an unmatched energy throughout the disc by bringing modern rock edges, combined with three-part hamonies and catchy hooks. The sound is original, yet very familiar. As good as this album is, there are some low points. "Africa" is a song that the band holds dear to their heart based on a recent mission trip, but it falls flat and seems to be the odd man out on the album. "The Killing Tree" is another song that I have to skip. While the music is fine, the lyrics are a little too much for me to listen to over and over again. It simply feels a little somber based on the rest of the album. Otherwise, the album is full of gems, ready to roll to #1 on radio. Whether you want to label this a praise and worship album with a modern-rock bent or a modern rock album packed with praise for the Lord, New Map of the World points listeners in the right direction at every turn. I give this album a B+. -Kevin McNeese for TSRocks.com

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent Aussie band, June 5, 2002

I first experienced Paul Colman Trio when they opened for Third Day a few months ago. They were the first of two openers, the other being Bebo Norman (who is also fab, check him out), and easily stole the show. I have been anticipating the release of their album in US ever since and am finally a proud owner: there isnt a single track that dissappoints and all speak of the glory and truth that is our Lord Jesus Christ. I can't wait to hear more from this amazing group of Aussies!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Thought Provoking, July 3, 2003
This review is from: New Map of the World (Audio CD)
I have enjoyed The Paul Coleman Trio, ever since they released their first single "Turn" on Christian Radio. They have a distinctive sound driven by great guitars... especially the bass. I believe Paul Coleman himself, plays the bass. The bass lines seem to drive the songs on this cd. I like that approach. It is very different than some of the other music out there now.
I had the great pleasure of seeing PC3 in concert last year. They opened for Third Day. They had great way of connecting with an audience. Even a very large audience. They genuinely love what they are doing and testify to the power of the Lord in their lives. They had some great stories about playing gigs for weddings when they first started out. They gave me more than a few chuckles. :-)
The song "Run" is one of my favorites. It seems to speak about my own spiritual journey, such as how we "run from the one thing that can save our lives." If you are one, who found yourself running from the Lord in your teen years this songs fits you... just like it did me.
I recommend this CD for anyone who likes the Newsboys or Tree 63. If you like guitar driven pop rock you will definitely like PC3. See them live, it's worth it!

Okay, if you haven't guessed yet, I lurv the Paul Colman Trio!... I first saw them at a 2 hour concert at my church, and they rocked!... Later on I got their CD New Map of the World, and so far I have all the songs on it memorized! I would definately recommend this CD, because it has positive lyrics, along with great music. Also, unlike some bands, none of their songs sound the same. Like some of the songs are really fun, like Turn, Run, Sweet Voice, and Let Love Grow. While others are just really convicting, and make you think about what your life is all about, like The Killing Tree, I Dream, and Lullaby. Actually my totally favorite song by them is The Killing Tree. If you want to get a CD that has great lyrics, sounds, beats, and meanings in it, then you should totally get NMOTW!

Go PAULY-POPS, PHILBY, AND GRANT... You guys ROX BIG TIME for GOD!...

Paul Colman has come to play at my church three times in the last year and he is just phenomenal. He has such an amazing way about him. His music is great and definitely comes from the heart.

I'm not saying the album is horrible, but I don't think its anything special either. I don't think this will be an album that I listen to regularly like Jars of Clay or Third Day. A average album at best...

Good music, great words. The kind of music you rock out on, or worship to. I highly recommend this CD and encourage all of you to get your own copy.
