Editorial Reviews

2 CD set. This concert recording taken from the soundboard features the most popular line up of Mountain including Leslie West, Felix Pappalardi, Corky Laing and Steve Knight. This is the complete concert spread across two discs. The recording from the soundboard features Mountain classics and also in recognition of the special concert the band perform a fun version of Auld Lang Syne. Trademark. 2006.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mountain in Their Prime August 22, 2006
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Now this recording sounds great (compared to the Fillmore East 1970 available in this series). My bet is these are off the Fillmore's house reels. Good soundboard recordings and a fine show. Worth getting if you are a Mountain or Leslie West fan. As good a live Mountain show as you will find.

Note the track listing is incorrect. There is no "Theme", it is instead "For Yasgur's Farm".

5.0 out of 5 stars Rocks Hard! February 20, 2007
Format:Audio CD
If you are a Mountain fan you probably own their album "Flowers Of Evil". This album is very much like the live side of that classic album. There is plenty of improvisation, bass guitar fuzz, and Lesley going over the top with shear volume. The extended "Dreams Of Milk and Honey" just goes on and on..what a jam!

Simply put, this cd kicks! The sound quality is pretty good compared to some of the other cds in the "bootleg" series.

Put in on and turn it UP!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Live Mountain February 8, 2007
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I have purchased a few and heard many others in the Mountain bootleg series and have been mostly disappointed with the sound quality. Not the case with this one. It sounds like a board recording and the audio quality is excellent. Its a 2 disc set with many of the songs that made Mountain such a great live act. The Cream influence is very evident in Dreams of Milk and Honey. Whoever labeled this must not have been a great Mountain fan though.

On disc 2 the song labeled "Theme for an Imaginary Western" is actually

"For Yasgurs Farm". Great recording though and I would highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect Mountain Live recording September 16, 2006
By Dano
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
On this double disc set you get to hear all the Classic Mountain recordings in Perfect Fidelity. Now what can be better than that? This is something you NEED more than anything else in this screwed up world.More than cars, chicks and that green stuff.A definite desert island disc.If you bought some of the lesser quality recordings in this bootleg series don't be scared off from purchasing this one.You won't regret it!And wait till you hear Lesley's version of "Auld Lang Syne",a classic right up there with Hendrix's version of "Star Spangled Banner".Finally there exists some good music to play on New Year's Eve!I can't wait till 2007 when I fry my speakers with this baby!

5.0 out of 5 stars Colossal Double Whammy August 4, 2010
Format:Audio CD
I always thought Homer Simpson's line in that TV commercial for his newly designed car for the average Joe was also a spot-on description of the band Mountain: "Powerful like a gorilla, yet soft and yielding like a Nerf ball." Nice one, Homer Jay! In fact in the later and equally hysterical Homerpalooza episode, this fat, yellow, bald, Duff-chugging, donut-scarfing, blue-panted, three-fingered and altogether lovable American icon gets to groove momentarily to Mississippi Queen blasting out of his car radio! See, even Homer digs the Mountain. This New York combo's first and second studio efforts, Climbing (1970) and Nantucket Sleighride (1971), are without question bona fide must-owns for any self-respecting hairball with a hankering for the crunchier end of rock and roll but here is something I did not know until lately: as stupefyingly good as those two albums are Mountain live is a whole other bucket of rhubarb. Take this scintillating New Year concert from 1971 for example. Not that the live versions here of well-loved studio recordings are substantially different or anything but they're played with such slap-happy verve and control that you hardly notice at first how loose and freed-up and bagonghi these dinosaur jam sessions are. Suffice it to say that if you're partial to the studio versions of Silver Paper and Mississippi Queen and Don't Look Around and Travelling in the Dark and Nantucket Sleighride and so forth then you will surely pull on your wellies and jump around the garden when you get a lugful of what these dudes can do with them on stage. This two-disk entry in the official live Mountain bootleg series features Leslie, Felix and Corky firing on all four cylinders and then some--huge and fat and fuzzy never sounded so huge and fat and fuzzy. 5.0 out of 5 stars Oh Yes March 4, 2007
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is by far the best of the bootleg series and, although a shorther version, this live cut of Nantucket Sleighride is so close to the studio version that it is almost perfect. Great mix and recording. Was surprised by Yasgur's farm showing up but its a great version. They said the band was only 18 months old at this time and they sure were hot. Must have for live Mountain fans

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent way to ring in the New Year February 7, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is my 4th mountain bootleg that I have purchased. In my opinion this disc is stellar. The sound quality is excellent. The extended version of Dreams of Milk and Honey is amazing, its at least 20 minutes long, Felix shows us what he can do on the bass. The rest of the gang is in fine shape as well. If you are looking for your first live mountain cd this would be a great place to start.

5.0 out of 5 stars Official Mountain Bootleg Series, Volume 14 December 21, 2009
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Just to let you know, this is the same recording as released 2006 titled, Mountain Millenium Collection (MMC). I have both, so I know. I was hoping for a different set because of the title change. I have should have done more research. By the way, the MMC is available new or used for at little as $.01 on Amazon. Having said that, I have owned the MMC since it was released and can say categorically that it is the finest live Mountain recording I have heard disregarding various other live pieces within other albums (Flowers of Evil, Over the Top with its Stormy Monday, Mountain Live and, oh yes, Woodstock 2 with Blood and Theme to name a few). I saw the band three times starting in 1970 and frankly have been unimpressed with subsequent recordings that have failed to capture the full dynamic sound of the band. However, this recording (along with some I have mentioned in this review) comes respectably close. A previous reviewer is correct; there is no Theme For An Imaginary Western as listed on the playlist, it is For Yasgur's Farm, a careless mistake not made on the MMC. You cannot go wrong buying either this or MMC, I just thought you might want to save a few bucks.
