Just when I thought their last album, "White Knuckles" was their best work yet, the Bacon Brothers have topped themselves again. New Year's Day is the most rockin' album of their collection to date. The talent of Michael and Kevin has really grown and evolved into one of the best bands I've heard in a long time. This cd has so many different flavors and textures and each track is a new layer to the depth of the band's versatility.

You'll rock out to songs like the title track, "New Year's Day, Bitter Man, Eye of the Storm, Tell Me What I Have To Do, and Wild Life." The one thing these songs have in common is that they all have that hard rock beat, making you want to dance. Kevin's son Travis plays a rockin' solo on the song "Wild Life."

Songs like "Architeuthis" is a song about, of all things, a giant squid! It delivers a message to leave nature as it is. The combination of sounds from the flagolet (Irish flute), Ira's mandolin, Charlie's accordian, Michael's underlying sweet cello tones and strong bass lines from Paul give this song a Celtic feel. The tempo makes you feel as if you are floating along with the squid in his "inky black sea." This could be the next theme song for a Disney Film...maybe a Finding Nemo 2?!!

The song "Children" is reminiscent of the Beatles slide guitar lines of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" delivers a message that your faith and beliefs in God should not be used as an excuse for violence.

"Go My Way" is a sleak jazzy sounding tune that will make you want to "sway your hips" right along with the girl and her ipod!

I could go on about every single track but I'll let you be pleasantly suprized for yourself. Kevin and Michael are also backed by some great talent that's Ira Siegal (lead guitar/strings), Paul Guzzone (bass), Charlie Giordano (keys), and Frank Vilardi, (drums). All are successful musicians in their own right but bring something very special to the table for the Bacon Brothers Band. They all had a hand in the production of this cd so this cd was a total band effort. They all gel together and if you've been there since FOROSOCO you can really see how they've evolved. If you haven't, well this is a great place to start. The only disappointment is when you've listened to the last track and it's over. Solution: listen again and again. I highly recommend this cd if you're looking for something fresh and new.

I am so happy to have discovered these guys. I have always been a fan of Kevin Bacon's movie career and am really impressed with his song writing ability and his singing voice. I became a fan after this CD and have now explored all their past CD's and have found a real treasure. Give them a try. Their songs tend to get stuck in your head and grow on you more and more.

You'll be so happy you did!!! The Bacon Brothers have done it again! This is a great collection of original songs and you just have to own it so that you can play it over and over and over again!!!

I need to say a few words, I have never ever been a fan of any music band, because mostly i have listened a movies scores, never anything what i was hear on the radio touched me so i could buy a CD or becoming a fan. For 20 years of listening only movie scores, suddenly something hit me when i heard New Year's Day and Go My Way and from that moment i could not listening anything else except this. Now I can tell You honest, that I am a big fan of The Bacon Brothers band. Their music is absolutely wonderfull and album New Year's Day is a genius one!!!!!

This cd is one you do not want to pass up. There is an upbeat rock sound with "Tell Me What I Have To Do" and then relax and feel as if you are floating in the sea with "Architeuthis". The songs are written by Kevin and Michael Bacon. They have a great band to back up the vocals. If you are a fan of Kevin Bacon's movies and it is curiosity that brings you here give the cd a chance! You will find yourself being a Bacon Brothers fan!

This CD was an idea brought up for helping save a very old tradition in Philadelphia called The Mummer's Parade. Like many of parades and events, this 110 year tradition had cut backs from the City of Philadelphia, but leave it to these two band of Brothers to collaborate and help out a parade from where they were raised. Buy this album everyone. Help save a tradition. Enjoy their music.

I listen to music much the same way I enjoy food. I need variety or I get bored half way through the dish (CD). New Year's Day is like a quality buffet of tunes - none resembling the other. Each song has its own distinctive unique flavor. The Bacon Brother's are delightful to see in concert, pulling the audience in with each warm storyline. While watching them in concert, you're not sure if you should sit quietly so you don't miss a thing, or jump up and bust into a dance. The songs are so varied you can do both. I love the lyrics, the music and the all American nature of their music. Even if you are enticed to buy the CD because you are a Kevin fan, go ahead and you'll be pleasantly surprised, and hooked. Michael is adorable and a very talented musician, composer and producer. Let's not forget the rest of the band. These guys are talented, bottom line. Together they fill the room with good honest compositions. It's been a long time since I've purchased a CD that I'll listen to all the way through without forwarding to my one favorite song. Every tune on this CD is worth listening to over... and over again.
When is the last time you went to a concert and the band sounded exactly like their CD? That's what I love about these guys. They are not over-mixed, synthesized, artificial - just good tasteful music.
The title song New Year's Day is upbeat, fun and is hard to sit still through. Go My Way is bluesy & WILL get you on your feet! My favorite, Architeuthis is a great tune that's tender, warm and makes you feel for the poor creature pulled into the spotlight from his inky black sea. I'm not sure if I feel sorry for the giant squid, or people whose every move is exposed to the public by the media.
Do buy this CD and enjoy some good honest American music at its best.
GREAT JOB BACON BROTHER'S BAND !!!

Saw these guys recently in person and really enjoyed their music. Just good clean folk rock ... and fun.

After years of being a Bacon Brothers fan, I was disappointed to still find a negative remark by another musician stating that actors have no business crossing over into music. Clearly he has never listened to any of the Bacon Brothers music. This is a band that started out fourteen years ago playing music they loved and playing for the music. And it has only gotten better. Renowned composer Michael's and his brother Kevin's (the actor) music is a wonderful blend of country,folk,soul and rock. They have different styles that they merge together to create some beautiful and rocking songs.

New Year's Day is the bands' latest rocking release. I also strongly recommend checking out the previous CD's : FOROSOCO,Getting There,Can't Complain, and White Knuckles. Also available is a live CD or DVD of a concert performance called The Bacon Brothers LIVE.

I really was surprised ....this is my first Bacon Bros cd,I will buy the others!!
