For someone who loves Mrs. Kennedy and has intensely studied her life I was excited to see this book. I pre-ordered as soon as I heard about it, excited to learn more about her life in New York (a time period that is not often covered in depth in other books). This book is a relatively slim volume containing about 100 photos (or less). The photos are pretty, but none of the pictures are rare or exclusive. Every picture published has been published before in other books. No text accompanies the pictures aside from a short caption identifying each picture. While I understand this is a collection of pictures I would have enjoyed it more had there been a blurb about each picture that gave some more details about her life in New York. I felt that the book was unfairly skewed towards the time periods of the 1960s and 1970s while ignoring the 1980s and 1990s. While I understand she might not have had such an active life during those periods I'm sure there were many wonderful pictures and stories (especially regarding her and Maurice). I enjoyed the book, but I would have preferred more substance and less style.

Overall this is a good photographic book. But if you're going to have a book that is mostly photographic content then the captions at least need to be spot on. Needless to say this is not quite the case with this book. There are some a major flaws when it comes to whomever checked the photographic content.. They are as follows...
P39..outside La Cote Basque...looks like Central Park to me.
P47..seeing I am curious Yellow...Should be 1969 not 1967.
P48...Should be arriving at JFK airport.
P56,57,64,67,69...Not even in New York. All photos taken in Paris. That is evident by the street signs in French and the multitude of Citroens and Renaults everywhere.
P81...Should be talking to Steve Smith and William Walton...not Stephanie Boudin.
P105..photo was taken in 1975 at first press conference for Grand Central Station not in 1978.
P112 ..photo with Pete Hamil is from 1977 not 1979.
P126-129...photos from Martha Vineyard...last time I looked Martha's Vineyard was not even in the state of New York.
P136...photo with Granddaughter Rose....it is also with granddaughter Tatiana.
P138...Granddaughter wrongly identified as Rose..it should be Tatiana.
Apart from that I also agree with what a previous reviewer stated. The 80-90's is covered off in just 20 pages and more should have been devoted to this period. Then there is the foreword by Nan A. Talese where she mentions that in New York most people respected her privacy, except for certain photographers...It seems hypocritical to have this comment then have the front cover and 15 pages credited to the photographer that Mrs Onassis had the most problems with. In addition to that we have seen these photos over and over again in book after book.

As a long time Jackie watcher, I was disappointed in this book. First of all, the colors on the covers are hideous. A lot of the photos I'd seen before. The price was okay, but I did not find a photo credit for Ron Galella's famous photograph on the cover. I really expected a bit more from Nan Talese, altho I'm still glad to add the book to my library. Not sure I'd recommend it.

To piggyback on Tony Philpott's review of this book:

Page 10- Nan Talese's introduction. The Egyptian, not Greek government, offered the Temple of Dendur which was later installed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Page 41- The girl pictured is not Annabelle Churchill but Arabella Churchill

This is a lovely little book of goodies on Jacqueline Kennedy. It's mainly pictures but has enough extra information that you feel like you know all about her years in NYC. These years took place before and after her marriage to Onassis. So if you want the extra bits and pieces of her life and loss of it as she and her dear sweet lover, navigate through the years of her cancer treatments, this book is for you. It was her son that wrote her beautiful eulogy and also allowed the shrine of flowers and notes as New Yorkers, who felt she was theirs, left their thoughts and flowers in an outpouring of grief for the loss of her life. Jackie was NYC!

NEW YORK JACKIE, PICTURES FROM HER LIFE IN THE CITY is a 140-page photo-book of the years Jackie Kennedy lived and worked in the Big Apple.

Taken by various photographers, the pix capture Jackie strolling down streets, biking, jogging, meeting and greeting, smoozing with friends, attending the Opera, walking with Caroline and John Jr. on a date with Artistotle O. etc. The images date from the mid-1960s to the mid-90s. Most are candids. Captions are bare-bones.

Whatever the setting, the photographs, taken together, are a fond remembrance of a gracious, talented and lovely lady...with a dazzling smile. Recommended.

Bummer!!!! Knowing that thousands of photos have been taken of this woman, they continue to use the same ones over and over and over and over. Same goes for this book. Glad it was so cheap.

This is the best book . This wonderful woman was the right inspiration and truly someone to look up to . She was not perfect . But to me and I'm sure to others beyond unique in her way with words . Just reading her poems u see how creative she was her drawings her sense of humour . I encourage girls who want to get out of the world of the TV reality porn stars to look at this book and see a woman who didnt follow . Like audry Hepburn and I'm not comparing because they are both skinny - Jacqueline and Audry do what they do - their own thing ! This book is the best !! I love that its hard back and I just adore this woman ( not the fox hunting ) but adore everything else . Especially how she was as a mom !! Love her style sooooo much !!
