5.0 out of 5 stars Unsung Diva, January 18, 2000

This review is from: New York Romance (Audio CD)
When talking of new broadway divas, enough is not spoken of Alison Fraser and the great body of work she has done. This album is just one more great achievement to add to her list. A sampling of broadway, pop, swing, and so much more.At one wonderful moment on the CD, all I can say is it's more fun then a "clam bake." If you know Alison Fraser's work you'll be in love, if you do not -you'll be amazed. Buy it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars What Marlene was to Berlin, Alison Fraser is to New York!!!, September 14, 1999

This review is from: New York Romance (Audio CD)
I don't live in New York anymore but I love to listen to this CD and remember what a sexy great town it is, evoked so richly by Ms. Fraser's sexy great voice. This album only reinforces the sense one has that Ms. Fraser is the only young musical theatre star who could have held her own against the legends of the 20s, 30s and 40s. She has wit and style, a supple voice, great material, and is a wonderful actress to boot - I was fortunate enough to see her on stage in "Secret Garden" and "Romance Romance."

Truly, she sounds like no one else. Anyone who wants to hear what a real singing star sounds like, or who - like me, wishes they were in New York - need only put this CD in, sit back and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A pleasure for musical theatre and cabaret enthusiasts., September 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: New York Romance (Audio CD)
Alison Fraser is one of the great actresses of the contemporary musical theatre, and this CD gives a great sample of her talent and appeal. For musical theatre fans, the inclusion of a "lost track" from William Finn's "In Trousers" is a real bonus -- and Fraser's performance is sharp, funny, and touching all at once. If you enjoy musical theatre/cabaret song stylings, this album will be a true pleasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars FROG's the Key, February 28, 2000

I first saw Alison Fraser in Broadway's The Secret Garden. She blew me away. This CD showcases her talent, personality, and wit to a "T." Her tribute to Anthony Newley is a perfect example of her ability to make you laugh and cry at the same time. If you haven't had the chance of seeing this underrated performer live, please buy this CD. I hear she's recording a new one as well.

This is such a fabulous album - Alison is a truly unique and tremendous talent and there is nothing about these arrangements to not love! Nobody can touch "Love Me For What I Am" like she does and the material by Rusty Magee is not to be missed. If you have two ears and a heart, you'll eat this up.

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit of everything, September 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: New York Romance (Audio CD)
Alison Fraser has a great command of a range of American popular song styles, and shows it on this well-stocked album. If you have enjoyed her work on Broadway cast albums then you definitely need to hear her on this record. I especially liked the commentary and the arrangemnts of different songs into medleys...it gave me a real sense of connection to this dynamic and talented performer's personality.

5.0 out of 5 stars A versatile theatrical treasure, September 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: New York Romance (Audio CD)
This album is eclectic and overflowing with Ms. Fraser's talent and charm. It was my great good luck to see her in "Romance Romance" when I visited New York City a decade ago, and I have been a big fan ever since. This album was a great reminder of why she's so special. This woman should star in a hundred Broadway shows...Broadway are you listening? Till then this album will give anybody hours of musical enjoyment.
