A friend of mine introduced me to New York Then and Now (Compact) (Then & Now Thunder Bay), and I was absolutely floored by the book. In it is so much history, pictures that compare how buildings and places in New York City (Manhattan) of old compares to the new, with reference to the persons, places, and things that made and continue to make New York City the mega-metropolis that it is. The writing is crisp, clean, and to the point. Landmarks are explained. The old mansions either continue with new life, or are flattened in place of new developments. I found the entire passage through time--back and forth--fascinating and a must-read. And so, following my own advice, I have placed it on my bookshelf with pride and satisfaction.

Very dissapointed, ended up with this tiny little book I cannot see with out magnification. I will not buy another then-and-again books until I get dimentions of the book. This was 1/3rd the regular coffee table size.

Unlike the other reviewer of this book, I was fully prepared for its size and wanted to purchase it after seeing it in a store next to a "full-size" edition. This is the trade paper version, the other is hardcover with a jacket. Both are beautiful. One serves as a coffee table book, the other is a cute flip version/stocking stuffer. I love NY.

Very interesting volume contrasting the differences of New York of the past and the advances of present day in beautiful photographs.

Impossible remember of New York without remember Frank Sinatra. Try to put the sound and read the book at the same time. Will be a great experience!!!

This Marcia Reiss's book is a nice souvenir if you have already visited New York, or a preliminary overview of the Big Apple if you are still planning to visit it. The main buildings and squares of the city are presented beside pictures that show how the same places used to be many years ago, pointing out the evolution of N.Y. and its people during the last century.
A really recommendable book.
Amazon provided the 5 copies I had ordered in a record time (6 days), much sooner than expected... But the transport charges surpassed the price of the books!

New York Then and Now gives a concise description of NYC's past and present. The juxtaposed photographs provides a concrete understanding of the changes endured by the city with time, which makes the book quite interactive. The beauty of the city captured in the images are suitable for first time visitors as well as native New Yorkers. Learning the history behind the bright lights and overwhelming skyscrapers brings a greater appreciation for the city that never sleeps.

A very nice book for anyone who likes New York City. Lots of great pictures from the current day side by side pictures from the early 1900's. A definite must for anyone who is interested in the history of New York City.

This was purchased as a gift for my son who loves going to New York. He loves books and was very happy with this one. I am pleased in the timely manner in which it came.
