5.0 out of 5 stars New York Vampires, December 5, 2005
This review is from: New York Vampires (Audio CD)
This is a labor of love for singer Jennifer of The Nuns. This was a VERY expensive record to make, and it took many years to record. Many famous people worked on this CD, including Grammy Award winning producer Narada Michael Walden, and two of the tracks, "White Slave" and "Anita" were recorded in Tarpan Studios, the famous studio where many platinum hits were recorded!

Many excellent musicians participated in the recordings including Billy Idol drummer Tommy Price and Greta Brinkman who has toured and recorded most lately with Moby.

Jennifer spent a good deal of her own money making this CD, and decided that she would make the kind of CD that she wanted. This is her favorite of all the Nuns CD's. It is dark, lush and hopefully a bit disturbing, but this is the most true to what she wanted to express.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Adult & very good!, April 20, 2010

My dilemma is often discovering a great group just as they are winding up a career. As a result when I purchased the New York Vampires CD & a revised version in 2003 again I was not aware of the beginnings ,the tranformations & the genre shift that occurred with The Nuns since 1980. Even doing my homework there is still a lot about The Nuns I just don't know. What I do know is Jennifer Miro ( or Anderson) is an superb singer & this CD has at least 6 or 7 seven songs that are exceptional. The group that began as a punk group certainly isn't that here. Because the material is BDSM related you might reference a defunct group called Athamay to find material that compares to this. There is a Gothic ( but not Goth)feel to a lot of the songs & Jennifer's voice can match whatever the subject matter requires. There is almost a haunting remnant through a lot of the tracks that again make this sound so hard to categorize. Some of the music has a feel to a throwback era but transitions nicely to a hard rock beat. One thing for sure you will like this CD but it is a guilty pleasure of sorts. Not everyone will be open minded enough to get past the themes, too bad their loss is our gain! There should be a place in your music collection for this enjoyable CD-5 stars in my book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sin, Sex, It's All Good....., May 21, 2005
This review is from: New York Vampires (Audio CD)
Okay, so I'm a big fan. However, I must say that the first track was so weak, it could have been "written" by a second grader....However..the rest of the album is SUPER WONDERFUL. I've played it for a few friends who don't generaly dig this kind of music, and they wanted to know where they could get it.

The music has a lot of sex in it, and a lot of other stuff like that. Tracks 2 & 3 are kind of clubish, but the rest is just rock. I mean, some of it sounds the same after a while...but it's still good. Ya'know?

The cover...the outside shows her in a church...blood tears..the whole nine yards....nut much to look at really...the inside however....there aren't that many naked boobies in porn! It's beautiful though. Well..I think it is...but all in all...not a CD for the kiddies. A good time for the adults though.
