BEST YANKEE BOOK -World-Wide Collectors Digest, Inc,
By A Customer
This review is from: The New York Yankee Encyclopedia (Hardcover)
"There are other encyclopedic works about the Yankees on the market. All are worth every cent of their cover price. "The New York Yankee Encyclopedia" from Macmillan Publishing has two very important things going for it. One is author Harvey Frommer who has a blue-ribbon writing style and has probably forgotten more about the Yankees than most fans have ever known. But the best selling point of "The New York Yankee Encyclopedia" is that it contains the complete year-by-year statistics of every player and manager who wore a Yankee uniform. This invaluable info comes straight from the database of the number one baseball reference book -- "The Baseball Encyclopedia", also published by Macmillan. Nearly 100 pages are devoted to the statistics. While other Yankee encyclopedias offer biographies of dozens and dozens of former pinstripers, author Frommer chooses to write in detail on only the cream of the crop to be associated with the proud franchise. Chapters are devoted to the greatest Yankee players, managers, owners and announcers. Through the use of contemporary quotes and the personal reminisces of former Yankees, these bios are great reading. Other chapters of note are entitled "Some Yankee Eccentrics", "The Farm System" and "The Ballparks". A 22-page appendix is loaded with facts, figures and obscure information. In addition to the usual league, single-season and career leader lists, the appendix contains a compilation of plays, movies and songs related to the Yankees. The book is illustrated with nearly 200 photos dating back to the club's inaugural season of 1903 right up to the World Series championship year of 1996. Go Yankees!,
This review is from: The New York Yankee Encyclopedia (Hardcover)
I bask in the loveliness of being the fan of the baseball team of the millenium! The Yankees have won for three consecutive years and there is no stopping them! I have Yankee fever. I like a book that describes the history of this amazing team and its past accomplishments. I marvel at the fact that so many great players have been part of this team. I also enjoyed reading the stats of past players and the rookies. This is a book that every Yankees' fan should own. Go Yankees!
