The list author says: "I'm a mom to two kids under three. My first baby was colicky and my second is totally different, so here are my "strongly recommended" items to save your sanity and keep everybody as happy as possible in those early months."
"The side-to-side motion is what both of my kids really enjoyed (although this swing also goes front to back). This was the only thing (that wasn't attached to me) that my son would nap in. My baby girl loves looking at the star lights and listening to the soothing sounds."
"I love this because it's sturdy, mobile, and perfect for putting your baby in while you're doing other things. I always found myself wanting to use her car seat, but she would get sweaty or uncomfortable (from the seatbelts) and laying her flat would start her fussing... this does the trick. It also has a vibration function and overhead rattles that she likes."
"Life saver! A very good way to get a baby to sleep on his/her back without startling themselves awake every hour or so. Also, my colicky son was very calmed by being swaddled and the miracle blanket is very hard to escape! This is too big for newborn swaddling. Good to use after they are 1 or 2 months old. The popular Kiddapotomas swaddle blankets work just fine for the first 6 weeks or so."
"I love "baby wearing"! Both of my babies loved being in the sling and I could easily do chores, go for long walks or to the store fairly easily with this. And I just love having my babies close to me. The downside is that once they start to get heavier, it starts to put to much weight on one shoulder and can get uncomfortable after an extended period of time."
"This changing pad is a little smaller than the normal ones. We just put it on top of a dresser to make an instant "changing table". Also have a second changing pad for our living area, so we don't have to walk babies up to the bedroom every time they have a messy diaper."
"Any pack-n-play is a must have for traveling with a baby. My mom & sister both keep one at their houses and we actually used the bassinet function of the pack-n-play as the bassinet in our room. I found the "changing table" function to not be an added benefit. The weight limit is too low and the bassinet can function for changing too."
"A must during the cold/flu season... especially if you are sending your kid to a day care environment and they get the "day care" congestion. The humidifier we have you can put these menthol vaporizor pads that help clear their congestion, which is important because babies only breath through thier noses at first."
"Starting at about 5 months, babies can spend a lot of time in these exersaucers and entertaining themselves. We actually got one from a consignment shop. They're all very similar, I think. The babies can bounce in them and turn and look at all the activities on the saucer."
"We got this expensive combo but have been happy with both. The stroller is bulky, but you can fit a ton of stuff on or under the stroller. The seat back is adjustable & goes completely flat, which I have found to be a great changing table when there is nothing else around. I especially like the bar across the stroller for older babies to put cherrios while you roll along."
"I did not find breastfeeding to be intuitive or easy with my first baby. This book touched on alot of the questions and issues I had about breastfeeding and because of this and other resources I successfully breastfed my son until he was 8 months old."
"A definite must have if you are sending your kid to day care or granny's house and don't want their binky to get lost. We actually attach their pacifier to the car seat as well so we can find it more easily."
