OH, TO BE 12 AGAIN,
By Growly Pants (Philadelphia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: New Edition (Audio CD)
This album is.......a classic. I was 12 years old when it first came out (does that date me???? I'm old) and I listened to it INCEssently. In fact, this was my first exposure to R&B and I consider a fine first album to start with. The songs on here are great (kinda corny now that I listen to them again, some 22 years later) but the music is wonderful and the voices of these wonderful artists are so young full of life. They're not always perfect, and quite a few times on this album, someones voice crakcs, but thats what make this album so great. This is waaaaay before Bobby brown started smoking crack. Look at the album cover and you cant help but smile at how innocent and young these kids looked. And look at the cockeyed grim on Bobby Browns face. My favorite song on here, hands down, is Mr telephone man. The beat is fantastic and the story is so cute. It details the trials and tribulations of "love" when you were young. Oh, it was all so simple then. This whole album is about falling in love for the first time and having your heartbroken by the girl/boy that you were certain (CERTAIN) at the young age of 12 was the one for you. In fact, I listened to this album soooo much that we took a family trip to Arizona and I lay in the backseat of the car and listened to this tape (TAPE!!!!) on my walkman over and over and over, never once looking up to see the desert that my parents had taken us to see for the first time. To this day, my mom still brings that up....."I cant believe we went driving all the way out in the desert in Arizona to give you a new experience to tell your friends about, and you spent the whole time flat on your face in the backseat listening to a tape!!!!" The good ole days. This album is a must have for any r&B fan. Its sweet, its innocent and its........GREAT!!!!!

Oh how does it take me back. Its funny how music was so different back then. Although some may say its corny but the truth is the emotions in those songs are timeless. I found myself listening to Old New Edition songs from this album during my most recent heart break. Not knowing when I put them on how profoundly I would be affected 20 years later. How nostalgic to go back to a time when love was so simple and pure. Its the truest form of art. I thought to myself as I cried listening to whispers in bed (not on this album) How much music has changed. No artist today can imitate the sound emotion or passion that was put into the music of the young men known as New Edition. Because its so true and pure it makes you get to the heart of love life and the pursuit of music. Its funny how although the music is outdated the message is will never go out of style. Artists today are trying to create the type of longevity in music like New Edition created (among others). I would say for any true fan of music...THIS IS A MUST HAVE. Happy listening

This is the best New Edition album. I can't really say too much that hasn't been said - if you like this group or any of the side projects involving the members, you'll love this. Best song is Kinda Girls We Like... listen to it and you'll see why. By the way, this isn't just for people into boy bands (I'm NOT). It's actually great music.

The second of New Edition greatest hits of the mid 80's.,

I was getting girls in the 6th grade singing this album. All you needed back them was some New Edition and money for a ice cream sandwich to get your girl. Ralph and the crew slay the somewhat bubblegum but wholesome tracks. Stand out tracks are pretty much the whole album even Maryann. Personal fav's are Lost in Love, Delicious, Telephone Man, Cool it Now and Leaving you again.

Probably the most consistently good New Edition album, this one not only has the mega-hits "Cool It Now" and "Mr. Telephone Man", but three really great songs in "I'm Leaving You Again", "Hide & Seek", and "Delicious". Easily one of the best "bubblegum" albums of the 80s.

A tie with Heartbreak for their best album to me,
By Preston (nc) - See all my reviews

I thought that New Edition's second album, and their first for MCA, was a musically, well made effort. Cool It Now had that Michael Jackson kind of sound to it--would have sounded good on Michael's own Thriller album! The single they made for radio is no contest to the 6 minutes that's on the album. I still like Kinda Girls We Like, the romantic Lost In Love, My Secret, the Ray Parker Jr-sounding Mr. Telephone Man, the nice Delicious and others. One song I still play a lot is the funky, groove heavy Hide and Seek, with its slamming rhythms on the keyboards and bass guitar! Bobby Brown was better on this album out of the three he's done with the group. Ralph Tresvant had a nice falsetto on the songs. And the other three sounded good in their harmonies. This ties with Heartbreak as my favorite album by NE!

Nothing compares to New Edition even the new stars. When they came to VA I was there. I had never seen so many people at the NE Heartbreak tour. Still today I play me jams. I have all the collections and they are dear to me.

Music that moves your soul and allows you to dream again.,

This is the true R&B. Rap is a poor substitute for the kind of music that gave it birth. This album reminds me of being a kid and playing games, not sex and violence. If more of todays music were to actually follow the example that these guys had when they first started making music, I probably wouldn't have to keep listening to so many of my oldest discs.

New Edition: Round 2,

This review is from: New Edition (Audio CD)
This album is the bomb. I was only 2 years old when this album was released, but even though I was a baby,I really enjoyed singing and dancing to Cool It Now and Mr.Telephone Man. I am definately a New Edition fan.I have this CD, so let me give my review on this whole album.(1) Cool it Now: is about a boy who likes this girl and is telling his friends to butt-out of his affairs. (2)Mr.Telephone Man: a medium tempoed song that illustrates love and frustration (3) I'm Leaving You Again is a song that Ralph and Rikki wrote that is self explanatory. (4) Baby Love is a nice song that talks about missing someone. (5)Delicious: is to me one of the best songs that were ever recorded by New Edition because it describes a person's feelings toward loving another person. (6) My Secret: a fast tempoed song that is basically saying I like you can you see that? (7)Hide And Seek: a song led by Bobby Brown that to me was a little bit grown for him at that time because of one lyric and that was "the love we make". (8) Lost in Love is a good song because it is saying "I'm in love with you, so how do you feel about me? (9) Kinda Girls We Like: is a really cool song that was written by the members of New Edition that has a fast beat to it and great musical graphics. (10) Mary Ann: is a great song that says "since you have been done wrong in the past, I am here for you and you won't need another. If you are a New Edition fan like me and love them like I do, get this CD.
