Cooling problems and a defect make ACP-1000E a mixed bag,
This review is from: NewAir R1000E (Refurbished) New Air Portable Air Conditioner Features 10,000 BTUs of Cooling Power (Kitchen)
I bought the Newair ACP-1000E because we live in an apartment and a 'portable' AC would be much easier to install and move and wouldn't require approval from the apartment management. The ACP-1000E arrived quickly and was well-packed. It had a pleasing design (we nick-named it R2) and, though heavy, is fairly easy to roll around on its casters. Installation was straight forward. A simple matter of mounting the supplied window kit and attaching the exhaust hose.
When turned on the closed louvers automatically open (and shut when its turned off - a cool effect) and the LCD panel is pretty with descriptive icons for the various settings, though I found navigating through them confusing. This first problem I encountered were the horizontal louvers that are supposed to direct the air flow from floor to ceiling. However, on our unit they only went from the floor to mid-room, thereby not directing the cold air towards the ceiling where hot air rises (the horizontal and vertical louvers can be independently controlled, so I set the horizontal ones stationary at mid-room and let the vertical sweep left and right). The expandable exhaust hose (looks like the same type on the back of a clothes dryer) is about 6' long and the instructions rightly recommend keeping it as short and straight as possible so the heat has the shortest path out of the room. However, due to the location of the only window in our bedroom I had to use almost all six ft. of it and create two rather sharp bends. Therein lies the problem with portable air conditioners. The exhaust hose gets very hot and radiates heat back into the room, thereby canceling out a lot of the cooling power of the AC (a traditional window-mounted AC doesn't have this problem since the hot exhaust is sent directly out the back of the unit). Due to this we've been unable to cool a medium-sized bedroom below 79 degrees with the unit on high when the outside temp was in the upper 90s. Using a box fan to direct the cold air on us helped somewhat, but it remained uncomfortably warm. The unit is also noisy, though no more than a window-mounted AC, so if you can't sleep with a window-mounted AC you won't be able to with the Newair ACP-1000E. In conclusion, if you can keep the heat radiated back into the room to a minimum by keeping the exhaust hose short then this unit may work for you, but with the wide variables in room and window configurations this may not always be possible.

Over all I am very pleased with my purchase got mine from [...] , the ac works exactly as it should with no problems, a lot quieter than actual wall and window units I have owned in the past, my previous 8,000 btu wall unit did not cool my room at all during that 97 degree heat wave here in New York a week ago so I looked in to a stronger unit and a portable unit. I love the automatic louvers and how they circulate the air to the directions I set it to, this unit dehumidifies very well even in 85% humidity you can feel a very noticeable difference upon walking in my room. The remote control is great as it has a lcd on it which lets me see what I pressed and lets me know the temperature and every thing with out having to get up to look at the unit.
This unit comes with every thing needed to get it running right out the box, and took about 20 minutes to set up, as soon as you turn the unit on it only takes about 15-20 minutes before you notice that it is cooling and I am very pleased that I can finally cool of in this heat, if your looking for a portable ac with great features, 10,000 btu's and a price tag of $299 then I really suggest buying this unit only cost me $322 plus shipping and taxes after a 20% of coupon. Summer is just getting started so don't torture yourself in this heat...

Received 2 broken units,
This review is from: NewAir R1000E (Refurbished) New Air Portable Air Conditioner Features 10,000 BTUs of Cooling Power (Kitchen)
Received this air conditioner as a gift early last summer for my then 6 month old daugter's room. It worked for about 2 months before it just stopped working. No air, no lights, no nothing. Had to spend over $100 to ship it back to "Air & Water", not to mention having to lug it to the shipping center. They finally sent a replacement 3 months later. Just went to hook it up, and the exhaust fan isn't working!!! It will blow cold air for about 40 sec, then hot air. WORST EXPERIENCE WITH ANY PRODUCT EVER!

NewAir ACP-1000E ...Water evaporation STOPPED working??!,

This review is from: NewAir R1000E (Refurbished) New Air Portable Air Conditioner Features 10,000 BTUs of Cooling Power (Kitchen)
It worked perfectly for 3 months. And then BAMN. Suddenly the water tank is constantly filling. It fills every hour!
The humidity is not over 80%..Nor is it even 80. It's actually been between 40 ad 60... and fyi (I used to run this while it rained out infact and never had to empty it) And no I am not running the de humidifier. The only explaination this leaves is somehow the evaportation feature for the condensation is not working anymore? Or something has caused excess condensation n any case the unit cannot keep up with it and am always having to empty the tank. Really a hassle when this is in the middle of the night and trying to sleep in the heat.... Will be calling the dealer I got it from tommorow. Maybe they have answers? As I cannot find any ANYwhere. Not in trouble shootig not on any site. Really frusterating.

Struggled since the beginning,

Bought this unit about a year ago after reading rave reviews from just about every website that sold it.
From the very beginning this unit struggled to cool down a small bedroom (roughly 12x12). If it was 95 outside, the unit would barely get it down to the high 80s. The exhaust tubing was difficult to run with the window being roughly 5 feet off of the ground, so it was putting lots of heat back in the room. Just a few days ago the unit decided to just stop and flash. We emptied the tank, and it was full in an hour. this cycle has gone on and on, and now we are looking for a new unit. Not worth the $300 we paid for the unit, and I certainly would not recommend this unit to anybody.

Wow, really one of the worst products I've ever ordered but it does get one bright star for customer service.
The first unit arrived with the wheels broken and the casing seriously damaged. In honesty it stated in the agreement I would be responsible for return shipping regardless this was never mentioned and they were outstanding in the gentle handling of this claim. The second unit arrived in better condition though one of the wheels was off, thinking I could just insert it back into it's well and it would be fine not clever on my part. In the long/short run (this unit barely made it through one summer) since this wheel wasn't now installed properly it caused the unit not to be level and in a few months the casing had cracked which may or may not have caused the unit to start leaking from it's under casing? Nor can I say when it worked it worked well. The LED display was annoyingly bright and in a constant flash mode. It made such a riot of noise during it's cycle at times you were compelled to shut it down as this seemed to reset the unit. Lastly, while not an initial problem the water tank was constantly filling. I would change it three time daily and it was not being run in the dehumidifier mode. Though it seems this model is now no longer available I would still like to leave a cautionary note about this line of products. And though pleased with the service dept. the reason for not returning it...it's sixty day warranty had expired, the cost of return shipping, lack of desire for another Newair product.

Excellent Portable Air Conditioner for Heat Wave,

I purchased the NewAir ACP1000E about a year ago. It was easy to install and works very well. The compressor went out on our main unit and this small unit has been a lifesaver. With the humidity so high, the dehumidification feature was very much appreciated. Also, due to the current heat wave in the pacific NW, I bought another one a few days ago for my mother in law who lives up in Portland. Because they're experiencing record temperatures up there, they needed something quick and have no central AC installed in their house. Air-n-water was able to offer expedited shipping on this unit at a reasonable cost and my mother in law received it the very next. Overall, if you need something that will cool a bedroom or small living room down, this AC will do the job but don't expect it to cool your entire house down, these portable units aren't meant for that.

I am so pleased with this product.
The company sent this to me in mint condition with no problems. This product works very very well. Make sure to keep the air vents and the condenser clean of dust! |
