5.0 out of 5 stars This Scale Works
I wanted a scale to measure accurately in grams and ounces, to be easy to use, easy to clean and durable. This scale fills all those needs and has performed great. The buttons are nothing to worry about, the quality is very good and the scale is sensitive to very small measurements. Positives: Decent looking, seemingly accurate and consistent. Basically, it performs its core task well. What kept it from a 5-star rating? A couple of things, which I will point out simply because this is a $30 scale and others might like to know:

Positives: Decent looking, seemingly accurate and consistent. Basically, it performs its core task well. What kept it from a 5-star rating? A couple of things, which I will point out simply because this is a $30 scale and others might like to know:

1. We intended for this to be a countertop scale (not wall-mounted). However, we soon discovered a design flaw: When folded up, the bottom of the scale no longer sits flat due to the protrustion of the hinge. This could have been easily overcome had the designers envisioned that people might NOT actually want to mount it on the wall. This sort of defeats the "space saver" element of the name.

2. Thermometer is 2-4 degrees off. Again, not a big deal, but since there is a thermometer on it, I figured this deserved mention.

The buttons are nothing to worry about, the quality is very good and the scale is sensitive to very small measurements. The platform holds a dinner plate without any problem yet the entire scale folds to a small size so it doesn't take up much room. The readout can be seen over bulky items. It was just what I was looking for and I would recommend it to others who want a scale to measure food or other similar items.

I bought this scale last month. It's a great item. I needed a scale to help with my weight loss, and this stepped up to the challenge. I had a scale I wanted to replace cause I questioned it's accuracy. I bought one at the kitchen store and immediately took it back, it wasn't worth the $30.00 I paid for it. After searching and researching I found this one. I paid a few dollars less, plus shipping, but it was worth every penny. I found out I was getting cheated by my old scale and this one measures in oz/lbs or metric gm etc. It hangs on the wall, and folds up or stands on the counter. The clock is a nice bonus too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Food Scale!, April 12, 2007
This review is from: NewLine Space Saver Digital Glass Kitchen Scale (Health and Beauty)
This is exactly what I wanted in my efforts to lose weight by portion control. It is lightweight, can fold up to the size of a medium-small-ish cutting board, and has an air temperature readout and clock. I found out this morning that I was short changing my husband in his protein amounts, and giving myself too much ounce weight in the "good" carbs. The platform is stable and the glass platform is detachable for washing. The action push buttons are a little flimsy but nothing to complain about = it works fine.

Good value for the $$.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent, September 23, 2008

Excellent product for the price. I didn't mount it to the wall, but it folds up against the wall with one hand and stays there just fine. Unfortunately requires two hands to fold it back down (one to hold the upper part in place and one to fold the scale area down). Nice to have another clock and temperature display to glance at around the house.

I gave it a perfect score mostly because I think you're getting a lot for the price, but it's not perfect though. Here are some fairly minor shortcomings:

- it would have been nice if it could have been attached to the wall with something like velcro so you could fold it down with one hand, but the way the hing is built, the upper part travels up and down during the operation and would prevent the scale from staying attached to the wall during the fold down. Unfortunately I don't want to drill holes through my tile backsplash to permanently mount the unit with their hanger.

- setting the time is impossible. i followed their instructions (which were apparently wrong) and couldn't set the time. being an engineer I didn't want to give up and kept pressing buttons, and button combinations, and kept pressing, pressing, pressing, etc. and finally got it into the clock set mode. I have no idea how to repeat it, so when the batteries go out, i don't know if i'll be able to reset the clock.

- my biggest single complaint though is that after about 20 seconds, the scale exits the scale/weight measurement mode and return's to the clock mode. to get back to scale mode, you have to press "Tare", which re-zeros the scale. so if you had zeroed it with an empty plate and you put stuff on the plate, it'll be re-zeroed with the plate plus its contents. if you want to add stuff to the plate, you won't have a total weight count, but just what you added after you returned to scale mode. this essentially gives you a 20 second window to place everything you want to weigh on the plate. usually plenty of time, but it is a bit stressful for me and there was just no reason for this time period being so short.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the most rugged scale ever made, November 3, 2007

When it works, it's pretty good. However, given the very poor wall-mounting bracket and the barely-there way it holds the scale, mine fell 6 inches to the counter as I was putting it away. Now it only works if I remove the batteries and power it on, then weigh everything before the auto-off feature kicks in. Otherwise I get an error message.

In theory it's useful if you have limited counter space, but all things considered - the terribly insecure wall hinge, the fragility of it - you'd be better off spending your cash on a simple, more sturdy countertop model.

Lastly, the thermostat is not accurate. Not a dealbreaker by any means, but it's fairly useless.

I couldn't be happier with this scale! I have recently had gastric bypass surgery and bought this to weigh the tiny portions (1-2 ounces).

Number one best feature: readout is above the scale. All of the other scales I saw had the readout at the bottom - putting it underneath the plate/food you are trying to weigh!

Number two best feature: It folds for easy storage. Slides right in to a drawer. The base is glass, so I'm not sure how it would travel, but it seems pretty thick and sturdy.

Number three best feature: easily goes between ounces and grams. This isn't even something I thought I'd need, but it turns out that things like egg substitute is listed in grams on the nutrition label (1 serving is = to 61g).

That leads to the 4th best feature: easy to weigh other items! So I weigh my egg in grams and now I want to add an ounce of ham. I don't have to dirty another dish. Just zero out the eggs, switch to ounces and add the ham.

I highly recommend this scale!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great gift, December 9, 2007

I gave this digital kitchen scale as a gift. The recipient just called to tell me how much she likes it. She's pleased with how it hangs on the and doesn't take up counter space, and is especially happy with the "zero-out" feature that makes it easy to weigh contents in a container. This item was on her wish list, and she congratulated herself for making such an excellent choice in a kitchen scale. Now I will have to get one for myself!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for measuring quickly, August 14, 2008

I use this scale just about everyday and I love it. I have not mounted it to the wall, so I can't verify the stability of that, but as a countertop scale, it's perfect. It's small and light enough to hang out on the counter and I can grab it and move it around the kitchen as I need it.

It seems accurate, and I use both the ounce and gram units as I need them for various items. I like that you can put a plate on it, then zero it out, so you can measure only the item you're eating, and not the plate itself. This helps keep it clean, also. All in all, a great scale and I will be buying another to keep at work!
