4.0 out of 5 stars Download newer drivers here:
Hello,
I just thought that I lean people a hand. The chipset for this product is made by Ralink Corp. of Taiwan.
Both OWC and Newer Technologies do not make the drivers for this device available for download for some reason (at least from a public URL and even then they are out of date). The drivers on the CD you got are probably out of date...

3.0 out of 5 stars it does the job
ok, so it works. yes, it works.... BUT...it could use a couple updates for some glaring issues. i found that if i restart my computer that device does not reset, so once my computer has booted up i need to unplug and plug back in the stick. DRAG! also, the software interface is SOOOOO bad, ugly and clunky. YES, it does work, but really...clean it up!!! it does not need...

Hello,
I just thought that I lean people a hand. The chipset for this product is made by Ralink Corp. of Taiwan.
Both OWC and Newer Technologies do not make the drivers for this device available for download for some reason (at least from a public URL and even then they are out of date). The drivers on the CD you got are probably out of date.

You can download new drivers for this device from the Ralink Corp. web site.
The chipset in the nmaxpower is an RT2860.

[...]

Hope that helps people.

Cheers, Andrew.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works with iBook g4 (Tiger 10.4.11), November 10, 2009

Many wireless adapters have mac drivers but NewerTech have actually bothered to write this on the box.

So if you don't want to spend time finding product "hdt3i7r6t, NB! second version, the one with the 84756 chipset, only produced in october 2003, and then download a driver from a third-party then this is a good alternative.

PS
I bought it because I had a common problem with the old g4's, the airport card broke, giving "Kernel Panic". I turned off Airport and have been running this for a month with no problems.

YES, it does work, but really...clean it up!!! it does not need to look so 1992. one last thing about the software interface, it could benefit from an icon on the toolbar or something showing signal strength/connectivity...also maybe could be a software way to reset stick instead of unplugging it all the time. BUT... IT DOES WORK. so if you need something like this, it does the job. just clunky.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mac OSX Support, June 17, 2008
This review is from: NewerTech MAXPower 802.11n/g/b Wireless USB 2.0 Stick Adapter & Extension Cradle (Electronics)
Great for those of us Mac users needing to get off of 802.11G WiFi and onto 802.11N. Now that my iBook G4 is on draft-N, I finally get to utilize 802.11N speeds/range that I paid for when I bought my Airport Express. Being the only 802.11G device on my network, my iBook G4 used to drag the entire network down to G speed

PROS:
-OSX support, though download the latest drivers.
-Included stand/dock.
-Software install was relatively painless

CONS:
-Abnormally large for a USB WAN adapter and I'm thinking that's part of the reason why they included the stand/dock.

1.0 out of 5 stars Kernel panic on mac pro running snow leopard, February 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: NewerTech MAXPower 802.11n/g/b Wireless USB 2.0 Stick Adapter & Extension Cradle (Electronics)
The software and usb device causes kernel panics on start up on my mac pro that was running snow leopard, I tested it on leopard, still got a kernel panic, then I tried tiger, still got a kernel panic. For those of you who don't know, a kernel panic is when a mac freezes and an error message comes up and tells you to restart your computer. They are hardware related issues and are caused by cheap third party products, bad ram, etc. I would not buy this product, it is VERY cheaply made, and I haven't come across anyone who has gotten it to work properly or even at all.

It works but when I boot my mac mini i have to unplug and plug back in the stick. It does not recognize automatically. It's clearly a sw error. Interface is not so good too.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst purchase for Mac, June 19, 2011
This review is from: NewerTech MAXPower 802.11n/g/b Wireless USB 2.0 Stick Adapter & Extension Cradle (Electronics)
Wow... I finally isolated some very serious issues, and am 100% positive that the CONSTANT kernel panics are due to this horribly un-user-friendly usb. Seriously. It came with no instructions, but that's not the worst of it. Twice a week, I'm erasing and reinstalling my bleeping os, just to be able to get online. If I could afford to buy an airport card right now, I'd do it. When it comes to wireless adapters, this is one circumstance where buying the apple product is the only wise choice. Many products say they're compatible, but they're simply not, and this one will bleep your bleep up.

This review is from: NewerTech MAXPower 802.11n/g/b Wireless USB 2.0 Stick Adapter & Extension Cradle (Electronics)
This installed super easily, it performed as advertised...but...(my bad) it didn't perform any better than the old 1st edition of AirPort for my older Macs. That notwithstanding, this was VERY reasonably priced and it was practically a no-brainer ease of use. This works better with the faster 2.0 USB ports. :)
