5.0 out of 5 stars Five Iron's BEST Album
This is the best album that this band ever made. Reese Roper has an awesome tenor voice, and he has such a wide range! The songs on this album aren't the most mature, but they still convey strong biblical messages. The ska is unbelievably good; the horn section of this bands blows the Supertones and the Insyderz completely away. Dennis Culp is an excellent...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not too much bang for your buck. I reccomend the pie.
5 Iron frenzy is a relatively allright band. I'm not too much for this type of poppy ska punk, I'm more of a Hepocat/ Mephiskapheles groove trad. dancer sort of guy. But by the by, they're allright. It's just that they sound like many of the other cookie cutter ska bands out there. Ska needs quality, not quantity. If you really want some good Ska, I reccomened...

The songs on this album aren't the most mature, but they still convey strong biblical messages. The ska is unbelievably good; the horn section of this bands blows the Supertones and the Insyderz completely away. Dennis Culp is an excellent trombonist, and he has some great solos on the album! The songs are almost too fun and catchy...well, nevermind, music can never be TOO fun and catchy. Do yourself a favor and check this out! 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny of your money!, December 31, 1999

"howitzer" (Vancouver, WA United States) - See all my reviews
In Our Newest Album Ever by Five Iron Frenzy, the popular, yet still underground punk-ska band accomplishes exactly what they are trying to do. That is they blend melodic yet blazing ska, with punk vocals, and lyrics that are sometimes funny, and always Christian and/or uplifting. This is definately FIF's best work to date. I suggest you scrounge up some money any way you can and go buy it. You won't find better ska.

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD is like candy!, July 26, 2003
By
Jimmy (Lancaster, CA United States) - See all my reviews
Hmmm... where to start...
Well actually, as far as Five Iron Frenzy, this is where I started. This was actually my first positive exposure to ska, for that matter. A year or two earlier, I heard the Bosstones, & I couldn't stand them. So, like many people I've discovered, I assumed I didn't like ska (which is a hilarious concept, now).
This cd kicks off with a bang, as "Handbook For the Sellout" rocks you sonically, and challenges your level of musical-snobbery (what a band). And the fun doesn't stop there, goodness no. The worthy singles "Suckerpunch" & "Superpowers" get you thinkin skankin' might not be such a silly dance after all. Through to the jazzy "Second Season", & on to my personal favorite, "Every New Day".
In the space of this one album, my musical horizons were expanded, & I even found myself influenced as a musician, especially with Scott Kerr (Yellow Second) still in the band for this album. Five Iron Frenzy, you will be missed. (tear)

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Brand New, January 10, 2003
By A Customer
This CD's title is more than a joke - the album is still brand new every time I listen to it. It's an amazing piece of diverse yet unified sounds. FIF combines the best parts of ska and rock-n-roll to make their best album ever. Every song is amazing - here's my highly subjective list of the album's highlights: EVERY NEW DAY: FIF's best song, no doubt whatsoever. Possibly the best rock song ever recorded. The lyrics are beautiful. WHERE'S MICAH: Fun and hilarious. FISTFUL OF SAND: Incisive lyrics and music to match. Great symbolism, plus the only time Andy has ever sung on a FIF album. LITMUS: More great lyrics, rocking beat. HANDBOOOK FOR THE SELLOUT: A great way to start off the album - rock on. Of course, every single song is amazing, just buy this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars CD for when you don't feel like flying anymore, April 27, 2005
By
This CD would get 5 stars strictly on the strength of "Every New Day" - my favorite song from the early days of the incredibly fun and random Christian ska era (and maybe the 90's as a whole). I remember the first time I heard it (ca 1998), driving I-90 across Indiana, and feeling like my restless faith and tired passions had been given a voice. But beyond the final track "Our Newest Album Ever" was a solid piece of work as FIF wrestled with their passion becoming their job, were honing their social voice, and refused to take anything too seriously (Canada will get lodged in your brain resulting in spontaneous inadvertent smirking (SIS) for days). Can a CD from the late 90's be a classic? If so, this one is.

5.0 out of 5 stars GRRRRRRRREAT BUY!!!, August 13, 2005
This was the buy of a lifetime for me! I use to own this album...a long story short, it was snapped in half by a passenger in my car :( I think I was on a mission for at least 3 months when I finally realized, "Hey! Why not see if I can get it on Amazon.com!" So I found it, and the rest was history! The album itself is FANTASTIC! A must have for anyone who thinks they've ever enjoyed a Five Iron song somewhere down the road. It's definitely a cherishable CD with band no longer together and all. BUY IT!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars FIF At the top of their game, July 17, 2003
By
This album is the third best by the boys (and girl) from Denver. Out Newest Album Ever is a perfect blend of all different types of songs that only FIve Iron could pull off. They have a real groove that they carry with them in each one of their songs. My personal favorites on this album are Every New Day, Handbook for the Sellout, Second Season (Dennis Sings and he has a rockin voice), The Godzilla Song (hidden track-excellent) Oh, Canada, and Fistfull of Sand. The only Five Iron cds that surpase this one are Live: Proof That The Youth Are Revolting, and The End is Near (They really left on top of their game and its really sad because The End Is Near is their best). Pick this one Up and see them live while you still have the chance.

Superpowers - A funny song with weird lyrics but a great bass rythum. You'll listen to it for a while. 6th best on cd.
Fistful of Sand - A very very very extra good song. Great lyrics, great tune, only one song is better. 2nd best on cd.
Suckerpunch - Just plain funny. Also has a good tune. It's about a young 7th grade geek. 7th best on cd.

Blue Comb '78 - A funny song about Reese's sister throwing his comb on to the highway. 9th best on cd.
Banner Year - Just plain great. 5th best on cd.
Second Season - Very good. Like a better sequel to Banner Year. 4th best on cd.
Litmus - A great song, but it all sounds the same. 12th best on cd.
Oh, Canada - Another funny/weird song about going and leaving Canada. Not to great. 11th best on cd.
Most Likely to Succeed - About the winner of the high school senior superlative. It is just plain good. Great tune and better lyrics make it 3rd best on cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars our BEST album ever!, December 5, 2003
By
justine (portland, or) - See all my reviews
this album is one of the best albums ever in my mind, both musically and lyrically. not only did it convey their message in a positive and ever evident way, it also successfully challenges the media, something that mainstream bands TRY and attempt today, but only come away from looking incredibly hypocritical. alas.. that is a whole other story for me! anyway.. being an avid FIF fan i would definately have to agree that this was both their "newest album ever" AND their best album ever. If you are a FIF virgin this is a great first album and contains many of the songs that are FIF classics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mankind versus me..., October 30, 2003
By
This is the best ska rock album ever the be made on this planet )or any other). Every song (with the exception of those weird "funny" filler tracks) is catchy and just plain rocks. You will find yourself singing slong to suck classics as: Superpowers, suckerpunch, the hiarious oh canada, and there classic Brand New Day (which they end there wonderful concerts with).

These guys mix comedy with normal everyday stuff and how to get through it. This album is wonderful and their live shows are hilarious. Do yourself a favour and pick up this cd. You can't go wrong.
