Probably the best book on Newfs,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Newfoundland (Pure Bred Series, The) (Hardcover)
This book goes into extreme detail on the breed. It handles all aspects of the breeding standard. It has a great chapter on the history of the breed. I can recommend this book to anyone who has a Newf or wants to ne owned by one.Ries

A Must Have for the true Newfoundland Lover,

This is one of the best books ever published about the Newfoundland breed. The drawings of structure and movement alone are worth the price! Great for the long-time Newf lover as well as a beginner.

Excellent! Magnificent! The best of all Newfoundland books!,
This review is from: The Newfoundland (Pure Bred Series, The) (Hardcover)
At last! A book that describes, quantifies and illustrates what makes the most beautiful of dog breeds beautiful. The "COMMENT REGARDING THE STANDARDS" and "MOVEMENT" chapters should become the standards themselves."One remains enraptured before a beautiful dog as one does before a beautiful painting, and one never tires of looking at him. Thus, to study the anatomical substrata of the powerful neck or the noble expression almost appears to be mixing the sacred and the profane.", Mrs. Bruno states. But she manages it, and in what way! A true expert.

couldn't be better,

I have read, almost cover-to-cover Emmy Brunos book and it is, by far the most comprehensive book about ANY breed I have ever had the pleasure to read. She has lived with and bred these wonderful animals most of her life and shares most of her knowledge with us, the reader. I could care less about the pictures being black and white, get a good calendar if thats what you want, its the information that is so critical that she gives, and her love of the breed which oozes from every page. Her knowledge is vast and she holds nothing back. I have gone back to that book time and time again for many many answers that I have had. I recommend this book highly and a good calendar for pics if neccessary.

My New Textbook,
By Steve (Verdun, Quebec Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Newfoundland (Pure Bred Series, The) (Hardcover)
I've researched 2 different breeds and have bought 8 books on the two breeds that I was considering. This book will now be my constant reference guide when our puppy arrives next year. The exhaustive descriptions, the detailed diagrams of skeletal structure and overall form will help me for many years to come. The training section was also very informative. My only complaint is that there are no colour pictures of these beautiful dogs !

$23+ for a black and white book?,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Newfoundland (Pure Bred Series, The) (Hardcover)
I have always employed the reviews offered by Amazon.com when considering a book I am not familiar with. I must confess that this book was very disappointing compared with other dog books I have purchased in spite of the glowing reviews for it's data content. The purchaser has a right to expect book quality commensurate with the overall price. $23+ for black and white? I know that Ansel Adams has made a name for himself via the black and white photo, but this book does not rise to the level of that quality! Since most Newfies are black, the pictures do not stand out against the black and white background. Even the cover is poor quality. It is hard to distinguish the Newfie on the cover against the dark background. I ask you. . . how many books are published today completely black and white? I cannot remember the last one I came across! The publisher may have the right to cut corners in costs of publication, but it would seem fair to warn the reader of the fact. Especially if the price of the book is so high! As a lover of Newfies, they deserve better!

Wonderful educational book.....,
This review is from: The Newfoundland (Pure Bred Series, The) (Hardcover)
This book is not only a history but an encyclopedia of knowledge. Not only is this book for the prospective newf buyer but also for the owner/breeder who wants as much knowledge as they can learn about their breed. Great, great resource!!

Newefie Lover,
By "tiddlywink10" (PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Newfoundland (Pure Bred Series, The) (Hardcover)
I purchased this book recently since I was getting a newfie pup for the first time. I have a golden too but I wanted specific information about the breed. I found it to be very informative, easy to read and understand. It has photos (which I like) that are of nice quality. It is a must for those who want to know more about this breed or want to have a good reference on hand.

This has to be one of the best breed-specific books ever written.
