5.0 out of 5 stars Newline talking scale
I bought this scale for my daughter who is blind. She finds it very easy to use. The voice is nice, not an irritating one we sometimes find on talking equipment. You do have to bump it with your foot to turn it on but we think that is better than searching for a button to press. The larger than average maximum capacity is great for those who top out other scales. The...

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work
I purchased this as a belated Christmas gift for a visually impaired relative. The glass top has a nice feel on bare feet, especially in the summer when the glass feels cool on warm feet. It also has a nice, clean look to it visually, not as cheap looking as plastic ones can be.

The LCD would turn on after tapping on the scale with your foot, but after stepping on the scale---we waited until the scale told us it was ready for us to step on and until the LCD display was 0---the LCD would just shut off. I tried inserting new batteries, too, but that didn't work. I've returned this scale and am waiting for my refund. I've since purchased an audio scale from a different manufacturer and couldn't be more pleased.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good scale if you can't read the dials, November 7, 2009

We bought this scale you an elderly person you needs to weight themselves daily but have a hard time reading scale dials and displays. This scale has a digital display but also provides verbal commands. The voice is load and clear. The instructions are a little unclear as to where the batteries are installed (there is only one battery compartment). The other minor drawback is that is takes a few seconds to active the scale before you can get on and another few seconds before you are given the weight reading. Could be a problem for people with poor balance.

5.0 out of 5 stars These are working out fine, May 5, 2011

I bought these scales to be given to patients in a heart failure monitoring program for home use to do their daily weights. So far they are working out fine. The 440 pound capacity and audible weight are a plus.

This is an excellent scale. Even better than expected. Audio is clear and easy to understand for those with impaired sight.

I bought this for my mom who has macular degeneration and she loves it. She will weigh several times a day, thinks it's a novelty.

I got this scale to track my weight loss. When I first saw it I thought that there was no way it could hold up to 440 lbs because the part you stand on is glass and would break under all that weight. It works great though, and does hold me.

I brought it with me to my doctor to test it against his scale, and they were within 2 pounds of one another (this one higher). It is loud, too, so you don't have to worry about not being able to hear it.

This scale is wonderful. It speaks perfectly clear and the volume is loud enough without being too loud. I would definitely recommend it to anyone. The battery compartment is a bit hidden, but I did find it. My son, who is blind, is very happy with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stylish, Simple to Use/Setup, Talks Just As Expected, Great For Seeing Impaired, September 14, 2009

Pretty good quality. Looks great. Got for a near blind older woman who needed a scale that could tell her her weight. Works great out of the box. However, it's a bit frustrating that you basically have to kick it slightly to turn it on before stepping on it. Not a problem for non-blind, but then why would non-blind need a talking scale? I mean, I like it and am grateful it works and it's a lifesaver for the person I bought it for, and I'd buy it again. just in a perfect world, it would just turn on when stepped on the first time.

Really handy for us low-carb folks. Volume is a bit loud, and it starts talking if you bump into it in the night when visiting the commode.
