Caroline Angel, RN, PhD, is a certified mixologist and cosmopolitan aficionado. She holds a doctorate of philosophy in Nursing and Criminology from the University of Pennsylvania (where she now teaches) and lives in New Jersey with her husband, daughter and son.

I bought this book when I first found out I was pregnant. It was a funny read and has some interesting-sounding recipes. Some of them you would probably think of on your own, but others are more unusual or ways of making drinks that taste similar to the real deal (e.g., virgin Manhattan).

But, I didn't realize just how valuable it would be until last night, however. On a whim, I jammed the book into my purse as we left for dinner & jazz at a great restaurant. I ordered a virgin mai tai (it's a Chinese place), but when it arrived, could smell the rum. Unfortunately, the waiter didn't really speak much English, so he wasn't with me on the word "virgin" and "no alcohol" really didn't seem to take either. After a couple minutes (and sending back the first drink) I whipped out this book, turned to the recipe, and asked him to just give the recipe to the bartender. All was well thereafter!

I read this book in my first trimester. I felt like the book was geared towards women who go out to the bars all the time, helping them cope with not drinking for 9 months. The recipes were nice, but not worth the read.

This book is terrific -- a must read for anyone who is pregnant, knows someone whose pregnant or is thinking of getting pregnant!
