Book Description

Theory and History of Literature June 16, 1986
This work seeks to uncover the veiled structures of language and society that have situated women in an "imaginary zone", a zone of exclusion. It is an exploration and a dialogue between its two authors, and an exposition of Cixous's influential strategy of "ecriture feminine". Through their readings of historical, literary, psychoanalytical texts, presenting the sorceress, the hysteric, the Tarantella, Penthesileia and Cleopatra among many others, Cixous and Clement explore what is hidden and repressed in culture.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must for Feminist & Literary Theory, March 3, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Newly Born Woman (Theory and History of Literature) (Paperback)
This amazing books gives readers the ability to scrutinize literary texts from a feminist perspective. Cixous clearly lays out her arguments and offers a unique perspective on the struggle of woman and how she is seen by the rest of the world. This book is a must for any Women's Studies or English major.
