4.0 out of 5 stars Lies, guilt and Mother-in-laws!
Mary Davis does a great job in her first book effort! It's an old story but told in an fun, easy to read way. You really feel for Meg and Bruce as they struggle with the family situations that one seemly little lie creates, as well as Bruce's efforts to show his family (and Meg) that he really is a changed man. Curl up with a cup of tea, settle back and enjoy...

3.0 out of 5 stars one missing person
I bought a copy of this book a few years back & really enjoyed it. Though there is one serious flaw in this book. The third & youngest Halloway brother Brice who is mentioned by name in the book a few times but never makes a actual appearence anywhere. In short, Brice is like a invisible ghost. Talked about but never seen, not even at the book's ending wedding scene...

But Mom has recovered, and Meg's charade is about to be exposed Deception, attraction, and more than a few little white lies, complicate Meg and Bruce's already complicated relationship. Then when Bruce finally thinks he may have won Meg over, she finds out about his little white lie. Mary Davis amuses and entertains in her first Palisades romance, Newlywed Games.

5.0 out of 5 stars Realistic Christians, February 23, 2006
This review is from: Newlywed Games (Palisades Pure Romance) (Paperback)
Finally, a Christian romance novel with realistic characters and some romance. This book has it all - it's funny, it's heartbreaking, and it has romance. No, I do not want to read sexually explicit books, but most Christian romance writers depict the main characters as totally unsexual beings. I truly related to Meghann and Bruce, and the situations we can get ourselves into sometimes, even as Christians. I do not agree with other reviews of this book that criticize it because of the lies. The truth is that Meghann and Bruce are clearly being overwhelmed with guilt for their lies, but see no way out. It also shows the consequences of lying. It also shows that even dedicated Christians struggle with sexual desire, but it can be controlled. Bruce was truly a gentleman who showed passion and desire for Meghann, but he knew his limits and always "fled temptation". Christian writers, please give us some romance in your books. Remember the "Book of Solomon/Song of Songs" in the Bible. Anyway, this is an adorable book and one that I will read again some day. Buy it!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book to buy, August 7, 2007
By
So I bought this book forever ago. I have read it probably 5-6 times. The story is clever, the humor is great. Even though I know the ending I find it difficult to pull myself away from this book. I have to consciously decide to stop reading or I won't get any sleep. There are books you read once and books you need to buy because you'll read them over and over again. This one is a keeper!

This book is just for fun. Lighthearted reading for getting away from reality. I agree with another reviewer who said that Christian principles are not followed in terms of lies and deception. Eventually, the main characters do repent, but they must still suffer the consequences of their actions. Thank goodness for a forgiving God! Enjoy this story without taking it too seriously.

4.0 out of 5 stars Adorable!, January 12, 2007
I definitely enjoyed this one; Bruce and Meg's story hooked me from the first page! The premise reminds me of "While You Were Sleeping", the romantic comedy starring Sandra Bullock, but I have to say that the chemistry between Bruce and Meg in this book is above and beyond Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman's. I found myself holding my breath with each of their tension-filled interactions, and they certainly did not disappiont. Bruce is every woman's dream, while Meg is realistic as an imperfect Christian woman. Though the story may be a bit unbelieveable, it is executed well, and it definitely keeps your interest--I finished this in one sitting!

The writing definitely isn't perfect--you can tell that "Newlywed Games" is Mary Davis's first published novel, but she shows a great amount of potential here, and I look forward to reading more novels from her in the future!

4.0 out of 5 stars Way cute, November 21, 2006
This review is from: Newlywed Games (Palisades Pure Romance) (Paperback)
Two completely endearing and realistic characters with one little mixup. Who knew a little white lie could make such a big mess?? The book started off a little rushed (not in the plot, just in the author's style) but it works for this particular story and you get used to it a the book goes on. This book is full of romance and hilarity, an angsty relationship supported by sweet kisses and intruding relatives. If you love a good Christian romance, you won't want to miss out on this one. It's a light-hearted read to leave you feeling uplifted and inspired. Also good for those hopeless romantics like myself. I'm glad I bought this one, cause it won't stay on my shelf for very long.
