4.0 out of 5 stars Great snack for the office
I really like these. They're intensely sweet and have a great 'al dente' texture, and because they're full of potassium and vitamin A, they're totally guiltess, unlike the bag of Swedish Fish I ate yesterday.

One caution: because these are unsulfured, they won't look uniformly orange and pretty. They're brown with blotches of orange, and that's how they're...

1.0 out of 5 stars made me very ill--maybe e-coli?
I ordered 2 boxes of newmans dried apricots. I understood that the dark color was the lack of preservatives so I ate them anyway and became very ill--vomiting, nausea, chills, dizziness--about an hour or more after eating. did not occur to me that it was the apricots. thougnt I had a bad virus. so--i ate them again. slow learner--same results. miserable. 1. Are Newman\'s Own Organics dried Apricots supposed to be dark in color?
Yes! Organic Apricots will be anywhere from light peach in color to light tan to dark brown. Organic apricots will always have the dark look because there is no sulfur dioxide added to preserve their bright color after the drying process. Sulfur dioxide is strictly prohibited in organic food items and we are happy to abide by that rule. Also, we recommend storing all dried fruit items in your refrigerator. This will help to maintain optimum freshness right up to the expiration date.
2. Are Newman's Own Organics dried fruit products certified kosher?
All of Newman's Own Organics dried fruit products are certified Kosher by the Orthodox Union. You will find the circle U symbol on all Newman's dried fruit packaging.
3. Are Newman's Own Organics dried fruit products gluten and allergen free?
All of our dried fruit products are produced in a facility that is peanut, tree nut, milk, gluten, and casein free. All of our products that contain allergens are packed in a separate facility and strict procedures are in place to prevent cross contamination.
4. Is Sulfur Dioxide added to Newman's Own Organics dried fruit products?
No, Sulfur Dioxide is expressly prohibited by the California Organic Foods Act of 1990. All of Newman's Own Organics Organic dried fruit products are 100% USDA Organic, with no additives or preservatives.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best apricots, April 18, 2010

These are the best apricots I had ever had-- and I did not even like apricots! they are not orange as most people are used to seeing them in that color -- it is because they are not treated with sulfur dioxide. So don't worry about the color, it dos not signify that it has gone bad. The only fault I find with them is that they are not fom our own country. We need to support our own farmers and workers more than we are -- I personally would be willing to pay more for them if that was the case.

We have been buying these in bulk - love the apricot flavor - soft and not over-dried. After eating the organic variety, we cant imagine how we ate the regular yellow ones earlier. Highly recommend this product.

These make a healthy snack, are tasty and moist and best of all not preserved with any harmful chemicals. One of my children really enjoys these for a snack.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nasty ... Taste like cheap prunes ..., October 6, 2009

My wife loves apricots, fresh and dried. For years, she has been getting me to buy dried Blenheim pitted slabs from [...] for about $[...]/pound (nearly $[...]/pound delivered). I think that's a lot!

I bought this thinking that, at about $[...]/pound delivered, it was a comparative steal.

NOPE! This stuff is dark and pruney, with a nasty, unclean aftertaste.

I resent ApricotKing and their high prices, but at least their fruit is bright, fresh and clean tasting. Newman's stuff is just garbage and, at $[...]/pound, doggone expensive garbage!

I don't for one minute believe that these are high grade U.S. apricots. They remind me of those terrible Mediterranean and Turkish apricots I tried once: Dark brown with a weird "chewing tobacco" aftertaste.
