Newnes Passive and Discrete Circuits Pocket Book is aimed at all engineers, technicians, students and experimenters who can build a design directly from a circuit diagram. In a highly concise form Ray Marston presents a huge compendium of circuits that can be built as they appear, adapted or used as building blocks. The devices used have been carefully chosen for their ease of availability and reasonable price. The selection of devices has been thoroughly updated for the second edition, which has also been expanded to cover the latest ICs.

The three sections of the book cover:
Modern passive components: relays, meters, motors, sensors and transducers
Design of attenuators, filters and bridge circuits
Discrete semiconductor devices: JFET, MOSFET, CMOS, VMOS, UJT, SCR, TRIAC, and various optoelectronic devices
The subjects are treated in an easy-to-read, highly practical manner with a minimum of mathematics.

Ray Marston has proved, through hundreds of circuits articles and books, that he is one of the world's leading circuit designers and writers. He has written extensively for Electronics World, Nuts and Bolts, Electronics and Beyond, Popular Electronics, Electronics Now, Electronics Today International, and Electronics Australia, amongst others.

Ready-made circuit design solutions for professionals, students and advanced hobbyists.
Updated with latest devices from the major component suppliers.
Written by Ray Marston - circuit design guru.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST BOOK, BEST VALUE, BEST COVERAGE FOR THE HOBBYIST, February 24, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Newnes Passive and Discrete Circuits Pocket Book, Second Edition (Newnes Pocket Books) (Hardcover)
I have been involved with electronics as a hobbyist for over thirty years on and off. I own a book from 1985 authored by Mr. Marston. I still read it for his clear, concise and straightforward format. I purchased this book with another from this author in the series, 'Linear IC' from Newnes Pocket Books-Electronics Circuits Pocket Book. It is a small format but it is justified when you see the volume of information contained. You can delve into theory of operation or just build some circuits knowing you have the info to modify, expand and create more complex circuits. Forget author Forrest Mims books there is no comparison. If this book was in a larger format it would probably sell for fifty dollars. The size itself I find an asset. It is easily taken with you to read anywhere and has a tough cover to protect it's contents. Truly one of the best electronic books I have purchased at Amazon. The 'Linear IC' book in this series by Mr. Marston has slightly larger print. I am so impressed with this format from Newnes and the author I ordered the other volume in this series 'Digital Logic IC Pocket Book' I looked on Amazon for over five hours looking for the best book as a hobbyist and I found several of them with this series by Mr. Marston.
