super comfort in a sandal,
By far one of the most comfortable, if not the most comfortable shoe or sandal I have ever owned. Now that summer is over, and it is late Fall, I find myself still wearing these even now that it is colder because they feel so good. I bought mine in May, and it is November now. They really are tough to give up. Any reservations I had that they look funky evaporated when I wore them. If they do not feel right when you put them on, you probably have the wrong size. Most people that buy Keens find that they need to buy a half size larger than they do with other shoes.
They have a wide toebox so that your toes are not cramped together, and they are the first to come out with the protective toe guard. While other companies are starting to put toe guards on their shoes, they are not designed to be both protective and completely comfortable like Keens. I never stub a toe or catch a toe on anything with these, plus I can hide my ugly toes. It also has a little rise on the rear heel that cups your heel comfortably, but also helps protect you against those people that step on the back of your foot. It feels very secure once it is on and does not slip. There are no straps to fool with or Velcro to adjust, it has an inner lining that looks like the neoprene on a scuba suit, it stretches to fit. It has a no lace closure and you set it once, from then on it slips on easy. The metatomic footbed cradles my foot like no shoe I have ever seen. A feature I had not experienced before in any shoe is the little ridge on the inner sole that runs behind the toes and in between your big toe and other toes. The first time you feel it is a surprise, but it turns out to add to the comfort of the shoe immensely. That ridge forms in a short time to your foot, giving you your own custom fit. Keens shoes are invented by a doctor, who studied the anatomy of the foot very closely, and it shows. I hate to gush about this, but the shape of this shoe inside and out gives me a sensation that the shoe is part of me, and I can stand longer and walk longer... it makes me feel like running. I first saw these on some ultralight backpackers I met, they swore by them. It has an anatomical outer sole that is very grippy, with a nice athletic shape, it gives good traction on sand, dirt, boulders, mud, you name it. It is not slippery on the boat or dock, and the sole does not leave any marks. It is made in such a way that it does not hold dirt in any grooves to track ion on my carpet either. It is great for water, and you can wear it into the stream, pool, or sea. If it gets wet, for some reason you don't feel it due to the material that wicks the water away. It has an anti-microbial treatment that takes away any germs. The first Newport that came out has leather trim, but it is officially waterproof. The newer Newport H2 is made of completely synthetic materials, and it holds up better in the long run as far as repeated wettings and mud. When my H2's get dirty, I throw them in the sink, under the hose, or even in the washer and they come out like new. I wore these almost daily for 4 months straight with no evidence of wear. This includes standing in line all day at theme parks and scrambling at the beach and lava rocks on Maui. These come in many colors. Keens makes other great shoes like the Providence boots, clogs, and tennis shoes. My other favorite sandals are for dressier occasions, they are the black Rieker Anti-Stress Jens 09176, and the Dunham Moose Fisherman (actually designed by New Balance).

These shoes are great! I purchased Size 6 Youth for myself (I am women's size 8.5) and they fit perfectly! Exactly what I needed for my beach/adventure vacation. The youth colors were more fun (AND CHEAPER)!

What Size ARE These?!,
This review is from: Newport Leather Sandal (Toddler/Little Kid/Big Kid) (Apparel)
I LOVE the Keen sandals for my kids. They practically live in these shoes all summer long and I can still hand them down to the next kid with plenty of life left.
My problem is not with the quality of the Keens but with the confusing sizing system from Amazon and this seller. They are listed as, "Infant, Toddler, Little Kid, Big Kid, and Youth" on the sizing information chart but the ordering sizes don't match this system. Some say, "Little Kid, or Big Kid" some only say "Kid" and some have no other information at all! I ordered a 5Kids (since "kid" sizes on the chart started around a 10 I figured I was safe from the infant sizes)and recieved...you guessed it... an infant pair of shoes. The seller was quick to respond and helpful. They were able to refund the full purchase price as well as a portion of the shipping costs. Just be aware and careful when placing your order to avoid all the hassle.

Not good for sandy or muddy enviroments,
These sandals are not a good choice for the saltwater flats found in the Bahamas and Florida Keys, nor are they a good choice for kayaking. When wet and submerged in mud the openings allow enough sand and debris in to form an anchor making it immpossible for you to get your foot out without losing your shoe. The sand once inside rubs against your skin and causes painful blisters and irritations.
These shoes are also to rigid to allow freedom of movement in most kayak models. In short; despite the name and advertising these shoes are not a good choice as a water shoe.

As a mother of 3 incredibly active boys under 3, i can tell you : BUY THESE SANDALS! Oh, yes, and throw all of your kids' other shoes away!! They are most definetly worth every penny! Durable, comfortable, safe! What else can you ask for?
My boys have had these in every size. They are passed down to the younger brothers and still look new... Every time they go up a size they get a new pair, we could not leave without them! They wear them year around, with socks when it's cold! They wear them to the park, to the beach, to church, parties..... You will not regret spending this money!

This is my second pair of Keen sandals. They are built to last, fit well and I love the look. My son has a wide foot and they give him plenty of room. I regretted not buying them last year but decided I would splurge for them this year. A must have for boys that play hard and want a well constructed shoe.

I have purchased Keen Newport sandals for my sons for sevral years, now. They're not the most attractive sandal (in my opinion) - but they're indestructible, and have been so great for our needs. They are more expensive than a lot of other sandals, but I feel they've been well worth the money! My kids wear them all summer - through all their activities! They are the only shoes my boys have not worn out. (In fact, after a year of use, they still looked almost new.) I love that they protect their toes... they love that they are easy to put on & can get wet. They've been great for hiking, biking, and playground play. I highly recommend these shoes to anyone with active children.

Terrific shoes for Disney World!,

I purchased these shoes for my son for our week long trip to Disney. I spent a lot of time researching the best shoes to wear for all that walking...I didn't want anyone to get blisters!
These were great! He is normally a Converse kind of kid, so I wasn't sure how he'd like these as they are a little heavier on the foot, but he loved them. They looked great, kept his foot protected and dried easily when wet. He never complained, never got any blisters and basically never took them off! All of this with virtually no break-in period...I think they arrived about 5 days before we left. Definitely worth the price...for Disney or any other heavy walking you might do.

Perfect Summer Shoe!,
This review is from: Newport Leather Sandal (Toddler/Little Kid/Big Kid) (Apparel)
My son is currently wearing his 2nd pair of these shoes. They are pricy shoes for a toddler, but well worth it. I love how easy they are to take on and off and their versatility - we have season passes to a water park so he can use them to go there, as well as for every day use. I have noticed that they "stink" a little bit if they get wet and he wears them, but I run them through the washing machine and they are good as new. I will def continue to buy these every year!

Great Shoe,
This is the perfect shoe for summer. I needed a shoe for my kids that was airy for summer, yet gave them support to run and/or walk all day and not bother their feet. This is the shoe!
