Beware!,
By Burned Customer (Washington, DC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Newport News Capri leggings (Apparel)
I purchased a pair of leggings like the ones listed here from Newport News in July 2009 after finding the product on this web site. I paid with my debit card. A few days later, a company called Insider Pass started deducting money from my checking account each month. Unfortunately, I did not notice the charges until Nov. 7 (yesterday). I researched the company on the Internet and learned that Insider Pass is affiliated with Newport News. I called Newport News to complain about the charges I discovered. A woman named Inez said I must have joined Insider Pass in exchange for free shipping on my next Newport News order. I don't believe her. I had no intention of becoming a regular shopper of Newport News. This is the only purchase I have ever made from this business. Inez said I would have to cancel my "membership" with the third party company -- Insider Pass -- on my own. I don't even know what this "membership" is or entails! She also said Newport News would not be refunding me the billings to my account. After I threatened to report Newport News to the Better Business Bureau and Federal Trade Commission if I didn't get my money back, Inez hung up on me.
The unauthorized Insider Pass charges to my checking account are as follows: 11/9/09 -- $14.95 (my bank shows this as pending) 10/13/09 -- $14.95 8/18/09 -- $14.95 7/20/09 -- $1.95. Apparently, this is a common business practice. The Better Business Bureau gave Insider Pass, also known as EMI Encore Marketing International, an F rating. See www.dc.bbb.org/report.html?national=y&compid=7628#Ratings Complaints about the company and its many aliases abound on the Internet. According to EMI's website, businesses that partner with EMI actually get money back from the "memberships" ostensibly sold to their own customers. Check out the "Your Profits" tab and the case studies listed on the "Why Encore" tab on EMI's web site to see the kind of money Newport News might be making from unwitting customers like myself. In all, Newport News allowed Insider Pass/EMI to take an additional $46.80 from me after I bought a pair of $12 leggings from them listed for sale this web site. I got nothing in return. I have had to cancel my debit card so they can't take any more money from me. I don't expect Amazon to refund me the money. I did report the incident to them, though, and feel it is important to warn others who might want to purchase products like this pair of leggings from Newport News what it could cost them.

I ordered these leggings via Amazon and received them a few days later with no problems. I am 5'4 and they go a little longer than knee length on me, maybe mid calf. Not a problem, i just scrunch 'em up a little bit. I absolutely LOVE LOVE these leggings and wear them ALL the time, to bed, out with tall boots on over them, around the house with flip flops, running errands with sneakers. I'm in the process of ordering about two more of these exact same pairs. They are good quality, the fabric is not thin or flimsy, the price is nice and they look great on.
