Book Description

November 2004
As with the first volume of this remarkable series, award-winning writer Michael B Davie shares with readers some of the outstanding news and feature articles he's created during a journalism career spanning decades. The veteran journalist is a master of this artform, seemingly effortlessly creating stores that are at once compelling, engaging, thought-provoking, well-written and well-researched. The "News & Features" series of books presents a small but interesting selection of the author's work that in total encompasses over 10,000 articles published in "The Toronto Star", "Hamilton Spectator", "Globe & Mail", "Montreal Gazette", "Vancouver Sun" and many other major newspapers coast to coast. Commentary by the author is also included throughout. This is an insightful look at the work of one of Canada's leading journalists.

5.0 out of 5 stars First-rate news and feature writing, January 26, 2005
This review is from: News & Features, Vol. 2: More Great Writing Examples from an Award-Winning Journalist (Paperback)
Veteran journalist Michael B. Davie has produced a first-rate collection of news and feature stories, along with his own expert commentary on what went into crafting these award-winning works of journalism.
I especially enjoyed the story on a man named Malcolm who turned to lipsuction because he'd tried everything and couldn't get rid of his love handles. The lead sentence: "The problem hit Malcolm in the middle."
I'd recommend this book to journalism students, practicing reporters and anyone who enjoys reading finely crafted news and feature articles.
