Discussing the history of international communication, this book develops a theoretical framework for the analysis of current global media developments on the basis of an empirical analysis of CNN's World Report program. It explores how the 1985 launch of CNN's international news outlet brought about new forms of global political communication that have reshaped international political communication. The author argues that the new global exchange can be regarded as a transsocietal sphere of mediation that involves not only a global exchange of universal issues, but particular news and political information issues as well.
