The Kindle edition of Newsday serves its purpose of delivering mainstream news for those of us looking for a quick update on local and national events. Newsday also goes beyond that with editorials and features that connects the reader with different views and perspectives. Newsday is a New York produced paper which contains segments from Manhattan to Long Island. While it may not satisfy the hardcore news buff, it's worth the consideration. I think the major downside to the e-book version of newspapers is the inability to view the extra features (ex. comics, crossword, advertisements). While I'm sure that will come about very shortly, there will be many who will continue to ignore this new digital delivery until the entire paper is replicated and interactive. Those who deplore ads will love the electronic newspaper delivery as it is void of ads and filler. You basically bounce from story to story. How long that will last is beyond me.

I was hoping for a graphical version of the print paper, but I was sorely disappointed. The layout is nothing but headline links, followed by text. No pictures, graphics, box scores in sports - nothing. Very basic and quite frankly a little boring. If you simply want to read the articles, then you should be OK. But it you're looking for an e-version of the regular paper - or at the very least an appealing layout online - then stay away. You'd be better off getting the print version.

I bought Newsday to follow the Belmont Horse Race more closely and I found the rest of the paper enjoyable and well organized for the kindle.

Many papers translate poorly to the kindle, like Newsday rival NY Post or just cost too much like the Baltimore Sun and Wall Street Journal, but Newsday works well and is priced right.

It is, of course, centered mostly on Long Island and New York area news. New York sports fans will find it fun.

The writing has a distinctive sort of homespun flavor to it unlike any of the other New York regional dailies. My only beef is that there isn't enough of it. It's a Long Island newspaper, but they could easily give the New York dailies a run for their money if they'd beef up the reporting and the amount of actual content. The editorials are also very good.

I used to live on Long Island. I was very happy when I found I could download copies of newsday to my IPad.
While I must admit it is not the whole newspaper, they leave out sports scores and tv listings, it's nice to catch up on
Some of the news from,my old neighborhood.
The issue of newsday downloaded very quickly. I was able to browse through it and read it at my leisure.
I will download other issues of newsday in the future. A good deal for 49 cents a copy.

Newsday is the local paper for Long Island. Unfortunately, their journalistic standards are all but nonexistent. In order to make a story more interesting - and sell more papers - they sensationalize many stories, and the truth is all but lost. I once contacted the writer about a particular story, and pointed out the many incorrect facts in his article. His reply was: "it makes the story more interesting"

2/2/16 Update: I noticed that Amazon was still charging me $9.99 per month for Newsday, so all subscribers should check their statements. For those of you not checking, there have been a few Newsday downloads recently, although they have been later in the day or at night. Maybe we will get our paper back sometime soon.
---------------------
Latest update: Amazon took the blame for no newspaper, but they have subsequently told me that Newsday has not sent any new content since 12/1. If you look at Newsday's page on Amazon, sure enough, 12/1 is the latest issue. Zero communication from Newsday.

I used to be able to count on Newsday on my Kindle at 3:50 AM. For the last month, I am lucky if I have it by 5:20 AM. It is 6:30 AM now, and still no paper. I've waited past 8:00. And when it does come, there is an entire section missing, and this has been the case for over a month. I've written to Newsday three times and have yet to receive a response. They do think highly of their paying readers. Guess they don't remember there is a lot of competition in the NY market.

I enjoy reading Newsday daily, particularly Long Island centric stories, the Sports section and restaurant reviews. This digital edition gives you everything you need to stay informed. It makes my train ride to NYC much quicker!
