Why Newton gets the credit for Laws of motion while it is really a common sense?

Really. People are building and using houses, temples, cathedrals, bridges, carts for thousands of years. How can they do that possibly not knowing basic priciples of stability? Both static and dynamic. Did Newton putting them on paper only 350 years ago necessarily made significant improvements in them?
I don't think so. Technology made improvements but not the laws.
