3.0 out of 5 stars Decent. That's All.
First of all i don't know why Amazon is advertizing this cd as a single, it is a full length cd. To the reviewer complaining about the Bush Bashing, muscians have freedom of speech too, get over it buddy. My complaint about this record-TOO MANY BALLADS! Nazareth is long removed from The Mainstream,no chance of a radio hit, so they should do their old fans a favor and...

This is a great heavy rockin' album from start to finish. Good to hear them all playing so well after all these years. Great, mean vocals too. Right up there with their best Hair of the Dog and Expect No Mercy!!!

For other new albums from old timers who still rock hard n' heavy:

Uriah Heep - Wake The Sleeper 2008
Mountain - Masters Of War 2008
Michael Schenker - In The Midst 2008
Blue Cheer - What Doesn't Kill You 2007
Project Moonstone(supergroup) - Take A Stand 2006
Randy Holden - Guitar God 2006

To the reviewer complaining about the Bush Bashing, muscians have freedom of speech too, get over it buddy. My complaint about this record-TOO MANY BALLADS! Nazareth is long removed from The Mainstream,no chance of a radio hit, so they should do their old fans a favor and record cds that ROCK HARD all the way through. If you are new to this band don't start here, start with "Hair Of The Dog", "Rampant","Close Enough For Rock And Roll" or even the more recent "Boogaloo". This record is ok, but not worth paying a high price for. Also, maybe to complete a collection for a hard core fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Good, March 26, 2009

While not a die hard Nazareth fan by any means, I must say that I was very pleased with this album. There is quite a bit of variety among the songs which surprised me. The last few studio albums Nazareth put out were rather monolithic. This is the trap many of rock and metal's classic bands have gotten into. Most late offerings fall into the "glad they are still together but it could have been better" category.

I am so glad that Nazareth made the effort on The Newz because it clearly shows in the passionate instrumentation and delivery. While not a return to their heyday, The Newz is certainly no embarrassment.

I've waited about a week before I've reviewed this cd. It is no doubt Nazareth's best music ever. I've been a fan a long time. I really didn't expect this one to be this good. Everything is great, vocals, guitars, bass & drums, every song is good. "BUY IT NOW"

5.0 out of 5 stars still loud 'n' proud, August 25, 2008
This review is from: The Newz (Audio CD)
If you have'nt heard Nazareth in the late 90's or 00's your in for a treat. I recently got "No Jive", "Move Me" & "Boogaloo" which made me snatch this new one "The Newz" right up. And it continues the same massive assault on your speakers. Both Billy Rankin and now the newest guy Jimmy Murrison really channel the old raunch and power of Manny Charlton.Dan McCafferty sounds even better now, there seems to be power behind that ole' raspy voice of his.Only had to hit the skip button once or twice, you can always tell when one of their turkey songs come up by the first notes so its easy to hit the button. It is a pretty heavy album thru out. Great big drum sounds and the son of Pete Agnew really has the 4 on the floor groove of Darrel Sweet and some surprise chops of his own. People say they sound like Aerosmith now, but they had those riffs and grooves all along since 1970's debut all the way to "Whiskey Drinkin'Woman"1974 and even later albums. For new fans or for the old fans hiding out, you gotta get this. As classic as "Expect No Mercy"..

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Than I Expected, April 18, 2008
This review is from: The Newz (Audio CD)
I gave this cd 5 stars, not because it is one of the greatest cd's of all time, but because it is one of the best Nazareth cd's. The production is fantastic with just the right mix of instruments to vocals. The songs rock except for a few slower songs here and there. I haven't listened to the lyrics all the way through, but if they want to express their political views they can I suppose, not that I care what they think about American political issues. If you are looking for thought-provoking intellectual discussions of today's American political scene, you would probably not want to have that type of dialoge with a bunch of aging druggie rock musicians who haven't had a hit in 30 years anyway.

If you can enjoy the music without putting too much concern into the lyrics it's a great rock album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nazareth Rock good and hard, April 7, 2008
This review is from: The Newz (Audio CD)
Nazareth has delivered a massive hard rock/ecletic slab of Funk, Straight ahead Rock N Roll and folksy ballads with their new release. Having been a Nazareth fan since 1974 I am happy as can be about "The Newz". I would have loved to give this CD a five star rating and would have done so If Nazareth would have stayed away from the tendentious wacked out Liberal politics of blaming President Bush for everything. The only thing the song "Liar" has in common with the truth is that who ever wrote the lyrics for this testy liberal screed has his facts and truth all messed up and backwards. Word to the wise "Get over it". Too bad! Otherwise the music on this CD is fresh and exicting as can be. Thank you Nazareth for producing the goods with this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nazareth Still Great, September 15, 2009
By
This review is from: The Newz (Audio CD)
There's not alot I can add to what's been said. I've loved Nazareth for 33 years now, and like other long running bands, some albums are better than others. When it comes to Nazareth, all are worth owning. I really enjoy this disc. Good solid Naz all the way. I don't get all the whiners about the political songs. I think they're great. Liar is right on the money. No weopons of mass destruction found in Iraq, except for those dropped from US air strikes. The Gathering isn't about Bush or being liberal. It's an anti-war song, and an excellent one at that. Our country was founded on mistrust of government. It's such a shame that those who profess to be patriotic, so often blindly follow the leaders. Grow up people. I listen to alot of bands that I don't agree with. I enjoy hearing different points of view. For those who aren't afraid of politics in their rock'n' roll, I can't begin to say how great Steppenwolf's Monster from '69 is.
