Very easy to use.

Supper loud too, when you are trying not to wake the other person in bed with you it's rather inconvenient having an annoying loud beep keep going off.

I ordered the BD Basal Digital Thermometer and was sent this one instead.

What is the difference between a basal and regular digital thermometer? A typical digital thermometer reads with in .2 degree accurate and a basal thermometer reads between .1 degree. So this thermometer can be used for normal family temperature needs, not just for fertility goals.

The thermometer is slightly lavender in color (at least mine is) It is thin, plastic with a metal time and covering case. Push the blue button and it turns on. Look at the chart included in the instructions and it tells you to take the temperature in the back of the mouth near your wisdom teeth. If gives rectum instructions also. The thermometer should beep if you are using it right at intervals. Then a rapid 3 beeps when it is ready to read. Record temp. Push button to shut off or it will shut off by itself. Clean with water and soap or 70% rubbing alcohol, let dry then store. Simple enough? for a regular temperature it is perfect.

It is simple to use and works basically as the instructions say for regular temperature taking. The thermometer keeps a record of your last temperature just in case you need it or forgot to record your temp for your basal chart. If you have a issue reading your temperature, such as you are interrupted with a phone call you need to shut off the thermometer and restart to get a good reading (per instructions) what the instructions don't say is that the thermometer shuts down slower when the temperature is taken badly so if you press the button just wait. If you press it again it will not turn off. The thermometer will turn off by itself in 35 minutes which seems like an really long time for a timer. So you might want to shut if off manually to save battery.

For basal however here is what is not included in the instructions.

This thermometer seems to give very accurate results and my repeated measurings are always very close to each other. My biggest complaint seems to be what others really like. I can't stand the constant beeping. It keeps beeping the entire time it is checking your temperature. I have taken my temperature enough times to know where to put the thermometer in my mouth. I don't need constant beeping to tell me I have it right. I am supposed to take my temperature as soon as I wake up in the morning. This is impossible however unless I am the last one up. If I happen to wake up before my husband, I cannot take my temperature because the constant beeping will wake him up. If I get up and go into another room to take it, my temperature is always 'up' a bit because I exerted myself a little before taking it. I cannot believe there is no way to shut off the beeping. On a regular thermometer that you use to check for a fever, this would be a good feature. On a thermometer that only adults are using and has to be used first thing in the morning everyday, this is an amazingly annoying feature. I have covered the little 'speaker' with tape to muffle the sound a little, but it is still too loud. I will definitely be buying a different, quieter thermometer.

I work in a hospital and tested the accuracy of this thermometer against the one's we use. It was accurate within 0.1 degrees. The Nexcare was tested with oral, basal, and rectal methods. It is a bit slower than ours, but for home use this is a decent thermometer.

My only concern is that you should have a separate thermometer for oral and rectal use. I would never, even after a thorough cleaning, switch between oral and rectal checks.

I like this thermometer. It is consistent and appears to be accurate. The only thing I don't really like is the constant beeping to tell you if you are putting the thermometer in the correct place. With it taking over a minute for the thermometer to take the temperature; that is a lot of beeping. It is annoying, especially if you are lying in bed next to your partner and trying not to wake him up. Also all that beeping makes the battery die faster. I have found two things that have helped (for anyone who is having the same annoyance). First I put my finger and thumb over the little speaker and the display. This significantly dampens the noise (although you can still hear it). The other thing I do is leave the thermometer in my mouth for about a minute before turning it on. This allows the thermometer to reach the same temp as me before I turn it on. That way it only beeps 4-5 times before it has the temp. That is much better than beeping for the full minute and saves the battery life. So ladies if you have this thermometer I recommend waiting to turn it on so that you don't disturb your partner as much as possible. I hope my tips help. Good luck to everyone! :D

First off, this is just a regular thermometer. Secondly, it's two degrees off!! I checked it multiple times against several other thermometers just to be sure.

This product gives inaccurate readings. I had misplaced the thermometer I've had for years and bought this one. BBT is very important for TTC. This thermometer was very inaccurate. After noticing my chart looked very abnormal, I had to get another thermometer. The second thermometer confirmed my suspicion that the Nexcare Thermometer was giving inaccurate readings.
