Nexia allows you to control your home while away

The Nexia home bridge serves as the hub of your home automation network by plugging into your router. It uses low-power, wireless communications (Z-Wave) to the Z-Wave enabled products throughout your home. The result is control of your home's most important systems - locks, thermostats, lights, and more - from anywhere you and the internet happen to be. It's that simple.

The Nexia home bridge can hold over 200 Z-Wave devices at the same time. This allows you to add a variety of devices throughout the home at your own pace. You can start small and grow your system as you like, and since Nexia works with many leading brands, you can add the products you want, when you want.

How will Nexia work for you

It is easy to overlook things in our busy day-to-day lives, but it is comforting to have a back-up plan.

Busy Family - don't worry about your child losing or forgetting their key. With a Nexia enabled lock from Schlage, each member of the family can have their own 4-digit code that will be easy to remember. If relatives are visiting, program a temporary code for their stay.

Watch what is happening while away - are the kids playing in the backyard, or has the dog escaped again? Has the package that you ordered earlier in the week been delivered safely on the porch? Monitor your home from your phone, tablet, or computer with a Nexia compatible camera.

Stay relaxed on vacation - are you leaving on vacation and can't remember if the front door is locked or the thermostat is turned down? Simply log in to the Nexia portal to check the status of the lock or adjust the thermostat setting.

Light up your home - no one likes to come home to a dark house. Nexia allows you to turn lights on/off remotely so your house is well lit when you arrive.

It isn't bad enough to return, but it can be frustrating.
quietconundrum
It doesn't work on wireless internet, it needs to be connected with a wire which I wasn't aware of until I received it and tried to set it up.
ryan gray
Set up was simple and this far has provided remote access control with a Schlage lock set very reliably.

I got this bundled with a Schlage lock and lamp module, but I wanted to comment on issues specific to the Bridge. There are a number of different Z-wave bridges on the market, and this particular one is tailored to work well with the Nexia on-line system, Schlage locks and components, and Trane thermostats. That's the biggest advantage of this one, and the biggest disadvantage is that it requires a monthly subscription fee. That increases the overall price greatly, so you have to consider whether the trade off is worth it. But you'd also have to consider the fee as an alternative to a monthly fee for an alarm company.

It's hard to separate reviewing this from reviewing other components, so I'll comment on the system as a whole and then on using it with various components.

Setting things up is relatively straightforward. It's done with the unit detached from the network, and powered by a 9v battery that's not normally used except when pairing ("including") or unpairing ("removing") devices. In a nutshell, you press a plus or minus button on the bridge followed by necessary steps on the devices. For locks, that typically includes keying in a programming code and a function number (0 for pairing/unpairing) and the exact sequence of when to press the Schlage button varies depending on which generation of locks are being used. For the dimmer and appliance modules, it would require a quick double press on its on/off button, and for thermostats, you'd use the thermostat menu item for pairing.

Once devices are paired, you can use your on line account to add the Bridge, following the steps given.

Bought this to expand my Nexia home automation to my second home in Europe.
(Range is even better here, as this building is wood frame, and not concrete/blocks like my Caribbean vacation home.)
What started off as a birthday gift from friends who knew I was a techie, has evolved into a very convenient way for me to keep tabs on my two homes, on two different continents.
As this bridge was delivered with a 110v adapter(intended for the US marked), I simply discarded that, and bought a cheap 220v adjustable adapter here instead. I had also bought the "Schlage BE469NXCEN619 Century Touchscreen Deadbolt with Nexia Home Intelligence and Alarm, Satin Nickel (Z-Wave)" in the same shipment, and this lock is battery-powered(4pcs. AA's), so no problem with 220v here.
So, I signed up for one additional home on my Nexia account, registered my bridge, mounted the lock, paired the lock, and I'm up and running in Europe.
Have found a Dutch and another German supplier of Z-Wave products online(Websites in English), and I'm currently in the process
of ordering sensors and light-controllers to fully automate my home here as in the Caribbean.
This bridge is perfect for anyone wanting an easy, hassle free intro to home automation. Register on-line, plug it in to your internet router, and you're good to go. I personally don't mind the 99$/year/home subscription. The website is solid and intuitive, the apps are very convenient and stable, and new features are rolled out regularly. Full control of both homes on my phone, and e-mail notifications immediately if something happens. This can be set up very easily in the web-portal.
There are other solutions out there(free as well), but they seem to require quite a bit of tinkering compared to the Nexia system.

I had high hopes for the Nexia system of security products and have so far been only partially satisfied. I'm using a motorized door lock and door sensors and half the time both of them fail to effectively communicate with the bridge to report their current status. Commands issued by the mobile app also only work half the time. It isn't bad enough to return, but it can be frustrating. I'm not sure if it is a software or hardware issue, but this suite of products definitely has some growing to do.

The installation was kind of irritating. Took a while to connect. Line of site is not that great. Subscription fee is ridiculous. Should not have to pay a monthly fee to unlock 1 door when it requires no support from the company to run.

Installation instructions look simple enough however don't seem to work, can't get the bridge to register with Nexia's website which seems to be a requirement. Customer service is non existent at this point, ends at 7pm Eastern so if you're on the west coast you're pretty much screwed. Going to give it two more days before it gets returned.

Update: Got the bridge to work after about an hour. Not sure exactly where the hiccup was but after multiple attempts of following the setup instructions, it finally worked and I have not had any problems with it since.

The controls for devices could use some more refinement, specifically with scheduling.

I own 2 of this items and they are great, the nexia bridge is a required item for shclage/Nexia home automation, this bridge makes possible to have compatible zwave devices to talk to each other or send commands individually, for nexia home members, the bridge will allow them to
pair each zwave device from schlage link locks, dimmers, switch on/off, thermostats, motion sensors, window and door sensors alarms, text and email notifications, remote controllers and other items not listed here to work as a whole and enable communications from the internet, tablets and smartphones to and from the user, this item is solid, simple instructions to set up, durable and well rounded over all.
