The Next EXIT 2006 (Next Exit: The Most Complete Interstate Highway Guide Ever Printed),
This review is from: The Next EXIT 2006 (Next Exit: The Most Complete Interstate Highway Guide Ever Printed) (Paperback)
This is an essential, fantastic guide to highway exits. We travel all over the country in our RV, and I don't know what we'd do without this book. We can plan our stops, know where to find healthy food (and the best coffee!), locate supermarkets, hardware stores, the local Barnes and Noble, gas stations. We know when NOT to leave the highway in a futile search for a gas station or a snack. We use it to easily calculate mileage. If we travel without our RV, we can plan our stops where there are good hotels. An absolute must for automobile trips in the U.S.!!

Not as good as the former Interstate Authority....,

This does what it says, but there are two problems that the former Interstate Authority book had fixed. (unfortunately that book is no longer made)
1. Instead of being organized by interstate, it is organized by state. So you have to flip sections if you are looking ahead to where an interstate changes states. 2. There is not any indication of how far from the exit the place is. A simple (0.3N) would be VERY helpful. And there is a third thing I would like to see added: - Phone numbers for hotels so you can call them with a cell phone and see if they have vacancies. But even with these complaints, this works for cross country travel. It is much better than just guessing based on the size of towns. --Alan

This book is worth it's cost in time saved looking for gas stations that sell deisel fuel, restaurants, motels, shopping centers, RV Parks and on and on. We use it as we travel up and down the east coast and west to California while pulling our Airstream. We wouldn't leave home without!

The Next Exit 2006,
This review is from: The Next EXIT 2006 (Next Exit: The Most Complete Interstate Highway Guide Ever Printed) (Paperback)
I have used this book for Travel to CO, to FL, to Me and to many other places and especially to go camping. It is an excellent resource for the "co-pilot." Saves lots of arguments. At least you know what is ahead instead of pulling off each exit to find out. This is especially important when you are pulling a trailer. One suggestion would be to put trailer friendly eating places. I know that Cracker Barrel is one of them but I'm sure there are others. We do sometimes want to go out to eat but can't find a place to park a trailer. Thanks for a wonderful book. HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who travels on the Interstates.

Best Book for Road Travelers,
By
This review is from: The Next EXIT 2006 (Next Exit: The Most Complete Interstate Highway Guide Ever Printed) (Paperback)
For any person who does any traveling, this book is for you. No more guessing where the nearest gas station or restuarant is off the road you are traveling!! All you have to do is look up the state and interstate road you are on and it will tell you what is available at every exit(gas stations, restuarants, camping, lodging etc). This makes it much easier if you are traveling with kids and especially a camper like we do. It even tells you which gas stations are easier to pull into with a camper. I highly recommend this book if you do a lot of traveling.

Don't leave home without it,

This book is even better than its' predecessor. Yes, the distance from the exit is included for the businesses that aren't so close and obvious you'd trip over them. Organization by state is the best - don't change a thing! We are RVers and are incredibly pleased that the RV accessible locations are easily identified in red. Couldn't imagine a better resource when you're on the road and want to pull off for any reason.

Absolutely perfect for those off ramp excursions. My only gripe with this book is that is does not have the Parkways in NY and NJ (maybe other places too). I love that it has Wal-Mart for the different exits. A must have.

I found this book invaluable. We took a cross country trip and would not have been nearly as happy without it. It gave me a great sense of safety knowing that in just 5 more miles I would be able to get gas and sleep in a reputable establishment, not bob's inn. I highly recommend this for anyone traveling outside of your home state. Even within your home state you may find some surprises :)

Great planning and enroute tool.,

In conjunction with a map, this book is the most useful trip planning tool we have ever used. Much better than computer maping software as changes can easily be made on the fly. It was key in the planning of food, fuel and rest stops for several trips up and down the east coast from Charleston, SC south to the Florida east and west coasts and north to various New England and Canadian locations by car and RV. It was also particuarly useful when traveling cross country from Seattle, WA to Charleston. Wouldn't travel without it.

Although printed on flimsy newsprint you will use this book over and over-besides the gas stations and hotels it lists restaurants, fast food, hospitals, and pretty much everything close to the interstate exit. We used it to specifically look for Costco gas, Krispey Kreme doughtnuts, fast food places,Cracker Barrels, Wal-marts and K-marts for incidentals and some specific restaurants. It lists mall stores as well.
It also includes mile markers of the interstate and scenic overlooks, mountain passes, and very importantly rest areas and much more. It lists the location that are south, north, east or west bound. I used this book on a drive from Georgia to Washington state and was very happy with the info. The road info was incorrect in Utah because the state had changed the mile marking system. Other than that, all info was accurate. I was thilled to see it at Amazon after looking for the new edition at several truck stops and at a higher price, too. |
