4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first
...but a decent sequel. (But hey? It's not often that the sequel is better than the prequel.) I was mad because alot of questions were not answered and the plot was not all that good. I wanted Craig (Ice Cube) to hook up with that girl next door. All she does is have a short convo with her and at the end she blows a kiss and thats the end. I believe thats pointless for...

The events of this movie take place after Craigs fight with Debo. Ice Cube explains what most of the characters from the last movie are doing now (like Smokey being in rehab). The premise for this story is that Debo has escaped from jail and now wants revenge. To protect his son, Craigs father takes him to the suburbs to live with his oversexed brother and his son until things calm down.

There is plenty of drug use and another theft in this one. This doesnt make it a bad movie, but following the formula of the last movie does not work for this one. Too many of the same gags are recycled for this movie, which means you already have an idea of what is going to happen throughout the movie. Craigs dad is funny, but there is only so much fart humor you can take.

I would recommend giving this movie a skip and watching Friday over and over again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Next, please, April 5, 2000

Friday was a cult hit, by far the best ghetto flick so far (or at least joint with Menace II Society) and a greatly subtle parody. Then along came another...

Next Friday, lacking Smokey, was always going to be a film that by no means could attain the level of its predecessor. But, nonetheless it was a great laugh and did nearly reduce me and others in the audience to tears and aching sides at points. Still there were colourful characters and great comic situations that made the first a riot, just here to not quite a large degree. Cube's movement from ghetto to 'burbs was certainly a gamble, but I reckon it paid off so that this sequel didn't turn into merely a clone of the first to cash in on the success. The 'Ese' element prooved very comical, as did the dog, but there was a little too much of the "35, 45 minutes" gag that did begin to get annoying. Fans of the first will still like this one and for them it is well worth buying.

It did have one thing above the first - Cube's sex interest was one of the finest things on screen I've seen in a while, but maybe that's being a little bit too superficial.

I believe thats pointless for Craig's Pops (Jon Witherspoon)drops him off in Rancho Cucamonga (I don't think I spelled it right) then turns around and picks him up. Its a funny movie, but not as good as the first though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than FRIDAY, October 8, 2005
This review is from: Next Friday (DVD)
I thought Next Friday was way better than the original....... The first movie was really slow in the beginning.......so slow that I fell asleep. As soon as you pop this movie in, you'll be laughing from beginning to end........ Mike Epps is hilarious as Day-Day, Craigs cousin, and Craigs father has some pretty funny lines in this one........ Rent it, you won't be sorry.......

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as funny as the original, May 4, 2003
By
This review is from: Next Friday (DVD)
I loved the original. After watching the original about 10 times, I decided to go out and buy the sequel on DVD. Like many sequels, it was not as funny as the original. The original's charm laid in its simplicity. Unfortunately, the success of the original allowed the makers of Friday to have a much bigger budget for the sequel, and this hurt the movie in many regards.

Also, while Mike Epps is a funny man, this film severely misses Chris Tucker. It's hard not to think of Epps as a replacement to Tucker, and he doesn't live up to the standard Chris set in the original.

It's a good movie, but don't go into it thinking it will be as funny as the first one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Why?, April 7, 2003

Oh my goodness, why did they have to make this [stuff] and then turn around and make another one. I absolutely detest this movie! First of all no Chris Tucker, second of all it was just a rehash of the same plot as the first one, and third of all it wasn't funny.

No Chris Tucker is definetely a bad thing, but I understand that he didn't want to do it again. Ice Cube could have gotten a replacement that was at least remotely close to being as funny as Chris. But he settled for no talent Mike Epps, he's whiny, annoying, not funny at all, and has no chemistry with Ice Cube. You could tell Craig was superior to Day Day, at least with Craig and Smokey they were pretty much equal, Smokey didn't let Craig run all over him. Have you notice that Mike has only been in Ice Cube movies because nobody else wants him (and who would with talents like Chris Tucker, Martin, and Bernie Mac to name a few out there who are actually funny), okay yeah he had a small part in How High, like that movie is real credible. Anyway it might have been better if Cube could have gotten somebody other than Mike Epps to be his sidekick.

If I wanted to see the same storyline rehashed from the first, then I would just watch the first movie at least I can see Chris Tucker rather than Mike Epps.

Like I before, this one was not funny, I think Kim Whitley and the mexicans got a light chuckle out of me, but other than that I didn't really laugh. Word of advice, if you want to see a classic movie that makes you laugh throughout the whole movie, stick to Friday.

2.0 out of 5 stars I didn't like it!, January 27, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Next Friday (DVD)
I don't know it was okay the first Friday was hilarious. This Friday did not have Chris Tucker in it and that's why I thought it wasn't that good. Usually, sequels aren't that great but it's good to look at the same cast who were back from the original and not a different cast like they do for made for TV movies.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Disasterous, Jumbled Mess Of A Movie, September 5, 2002
By
This review is from: Next Friday (DVD)
After the pure comedic brilliance of the first film "Friday", I was expecting the sequel to be just as entertaining, but not quite as funny without the presence of Chris Tucker.

Unfortunately, "Next Friday" is neither funny nor entertaining.

The writing is very uninspired and shows no creativity whatsoever. Which, of course, affected the performances. Ice Cube is downright dull and Micheal Epps totally lacks comedic timing and screen presence. Unlike Cube and Tucker in the original, Cube and Epps have no chemistry in this film. The jokes are stupid, senseless and are not funny. This movie is a downright disgrace and a complete disaster from beginning to end.

This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Don't waste your money on this one. You'll be sorry.

1.0 out of 5 stars The worst sequel ever made!, December 17, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Next Friday (DVD)
If I could sum this movie up in a few words it would be best if everyone stay far away from this movie and stay with the first movie, because that is where the laughs are at, and not in this stinking pile of garbage. If this took place in the Hood again it woulda been better, but hey, we can't decide what the sequel will be like. (...)

5.0 out of 5 stars Next Friday (New Line Platinum Series), January 19, 2010
This review is from: Next Friday (DVD)
Debo has escaped from prison and is looking to get revenge on Craig. So Craig's dad takes him to Rancho Cucamonga to hide out with his Uncle Elroy and cousin Day-Day, who moved to the suburbs after winning the lottery. But once he gets there, Craig and Day-Day have a set of suburban misadventures that make his South Central experiences look tame. This movie is hilarious, and if you are a fan of the first movie you should definitely see this one.
