"In today's market, there's no room for confusion. Brendon DeSimone is an insightful real estate pro and the book is the first to gather
all of the disjointed pieces of the new housing puzzle and offer
a compendium chock-full of the new rules of next generation
real estate."
-Richard Florida, Senior Editor, The Atlantic

"Next Generation Real Estate is quick and accessible.
Anyone can find the chapters that most appeal or relate to
their situation. Brendon's down-to-earth advice and contrarian tips with real stories bring to life, many times with humor, how to buy smarter and sell faster."
-Amy Bohutinsky, Chief Marketing Officer, Zillow.com

Brendon's wisdom, philosophies, and personal experience as a homebuyer and seller himself will help you navigate the ever-changing, and sometimes contradicting, waters of real estate in the next generation. You will go into your next transaction with confidence and security that you are handling your home as if a professional were standing right next to you."

I bought this book because my husband and I plan to buy a new house and sell our old one (which we've owned for over 30 years). Next Generation Real Estate is a book of competent but well-worn advice for home buyers and sellers, which uses the Internet as a marketing hook. Author Brendon DeSimone frequently explains that far less information was directly available to home buyers/sellers, presumably those of the "previous generation," when they could not search on public MLS-type sites, use Google Maps, or even email their agent. These Internet features have been around for years. Most home buyers/sellers--even those of the "previous" generation--probably knew about them before reading this book. If I'm wrong, the author should have included their URLs in his short resource list, which instead consists of more peripheral services such as one that "creates interactive 3D models for all types of real estate." A comparison of several public MLS-type sites would have been useful, because they don't all contain the same data, they are not all equally timely, and they don't all have the same features.

I wonder if the author has even tested some of his research recommendations. For example, he says that if a prospective buyer does a general search on the address of a property listed for sale, interesting information may pop up. That sounds reasonable. But when I try it, all I get is about eight pages of results that consist entirely of repeats of the same listing on numerous real estate sites.

It's understandable, because the author is an agent, but he doesn't explicitly say that most agents are willing to do far less for buyers than 30 years ago, because they assume the buyer *should* do almost all the work on the net and the agent just closes the deal.

Great advise that really helped us w/our selling & purchasing of homes (in the Summer o 2014.) Real Estate selling & buying has changed IMMENSELY over the past 12 years & this book prepares people for the shock. It's absolutely ridiculous that Realtors are still asking for 6% as they do so very little anymore. Most of the work is done by the Sellers & Buyers!!!

I saw the author and this book on a TV news program and bought the Kindle version because I am in the real estate market now. His advice is not what you would think from a real estate agent. It's is straight forward and often times contrarian. Seriously, after reading the part about truly being ready to buy, I feel like he talked me out of it, at least for now. I almost wish he could be my agent. It's broken down by the purchase/sales process and is like a guide book. I highly recommend.

I was on the Zwillow website where they were offering insights on selling ahome and many were provided by this author. So I bought the book thinking, ah ha..insight. Not so lucky, I. Let me sum up the book: 1. clean the house, 2. price the house so it will sell, 3. use social media and or web to help sell, That's it, you have now read the book and saved yourself $9.99.

I used the book like a real estate buyer's guide for 2014. I skimmed through the table of contents and went right to buyer sections. What’s great is that the content is really interesting and useful, but it’s not boring or dry. The stuff in the book is really applicable and it makes you look, ask questions and think about things every step of the way. I showed some of the tips to my agent and she thought they were spot on.

I purchased and read this book because I'm currently embroiled in a short sale and read a blog post by the author which was the best I've read on the subject by a wide margin. I wasn't disappointed. Moreover, and hold on to your hats folks, I wrote the author to ask his advise and he actually responded- with even more meaningful information and recommendations. Brendon is clearly an empathetic capitalist that seeks to provide a product and service that far outweigh that product or service's cost. This book is a testament to that ethos and I highly recommend it.

I picked up the book “Next Generation Real Estate: New Rules for Smarter Home Buying & Faster Selling” by Brendon DeSimone from my local public library. As a first time home-seller, I wanted to do some research before committing to a real estate agent. I read the helpful section, Part III, “Faster Selling,” and sellers are “Sellers who sell.” This book covers topics in a clear and concise way. I would recommend “Next Generation Real Estate: New Rules for Smarter Home Buying & Faster Selling” to anyone thinking about selling a current home.
I emailed the author that I wanted to sell a home in Orlando, Florida and that I needed a good real estate agent in Orlando. He actually emailed and called me and we spoke about the particulars and he said he will get back to me in a few days. And, he actually called me back with a recommended Real Estate agent named Beth Hobart who was a pleasure to work with. Needless to say the house was sold in about two and half months. Thank you Brendon

This book is really useful, particularly if you are a first-time buyer. It's full of great practical advice, stuff I wish I'd known when I was buying or selling a home for the first time. I really appreciate how the author compares and contrasts today's real estate market with those of the past. It always helps to get the 'big picture,' especially when so much money is at stake, as it is with real estate. This is the only book I've read on real estate that gives you that deeper perspective. It's also written in a way that's easy to read. It's as if the author is talking directly to you. The only reason I didn't give this five stars is that some of the advice given doesn't seem to apply to where I live. You might experience the same thing. But it's not the author's fault; this book covers so many bases for so many readers.
