Book Description

June 17, 2003
Now in pb! This book explores twenty-five contemporary buildings that radically experiment with the architectural parameters of the house, examining the various ways in which architects have tried to create striking new solutions to familiar problems such as form, function and materials. These single family houses will astonish the reader by virtue of their structural qualities and the repertoire of sensations they offer. Each house represents today's innovation and tomorrow's classicism. The volume offers a timely picture of the new housing style for the next century. Architects who have featured work include Lipmann Associates (UK), Dirk van Postal (Holland), Eric Owen Moss (USA), Fulvio Moruzzi (Spain), Sandell Sandberg (UK), Shuei Endo Architect Institute (Japan), Hariri & Hariri (Japan), Jo Crepain Architect NV (Belgium), Marques & Zurkichen (Switzerland), Koen van Velsen (Holland), Pool Architecture (Austria), Artec (Austria), Shigeru Ban (Japan) and David Salmela (USA).

2.0 out of 5 stars Land Sores!, April 22, 2004

This review is from: The Next House (Hardcover)
Most of the houses in this book look like what I would call a Land Sore. Horrid looking pieces of plastic and steel rising from the earth. Not very pretty.

There are two reasons I am giving this book two stars and not just one.

The book earns it's first star for the reason that there is a few (3) nice building shapes in this book. The problem with them though is that they are covered with the ugliest material inside and out that you could imagine.

The book earns it's second star by a short section on domes at the end of the book. These domes have some amazingly nice wood work in them.

If your curious about the domes get this book from your library. If you go and buy the book and hate it, don't say I didn't warn you!
