5.0 out of 5 stars On my top ten of most favored albums..., December 3, 2001

From the beautiful "Green Eyed Girl" to the haunting "There Stands the Glass", Ted Hawkins delivers one of my most favored albums in my collection. I was first introduced to him years ago through a colleague. I have purchased more than 7 CDs for friends, family and myself (as replacements for the ones loaned). He has been my companion on long road trips. I enjoy every song on this album.

Mr. Hawkins mixes blues with a bit of country to blend the right ambience for just about any music fan. I would highly suggest this cd. I am sure it will soon become a favored in your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best albums of 1994, January 2, 1999

The first time I heard that voice I was hooked. The song was "Long As I Can See The Light". Upon hearing the rest of the disc I knew I had heard nothing like this before. Every song is a classic . The vocals are the most distinctive and unique I've ever heard. I only wish I had seen Mr. Hawkins in person.

5.0 out of 5 stars soulful.....real......just.... outstanding, December 26, 1999

I first caught Ted Hawkins on the BET on Jazz (big dish-G7-21)network. From the first song, I was hooked. It's hard to categorize him, except to say that each song has a deep meaning, coming from his soulful voice. I never met the man, but I miss him; the world lost a great one, when he passed on.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hawkins Warm Swan Song, February 14, 2000
This review is from: Next Hundred Years (Audio CD)
From the first line of Strange Converstion,I was entranced with this album. With the vocal phrasing of Sam Cooke, and the heart of a passing the hat street musician(which would've been an honor to hear him on Venice Beach)Ted had the kind of heart that most major acts lacked(or sold out for fame).Unfortunatly,he was taken from us too soon. Now everytime I hear As Long As I Can See The Light,it's a mix of chills and sadness.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the greatest voices ever., February 9, 2007
This review is from: Next Hundred Years (Audio CD)
i saw ted hawkins perform live at "the fine line" in minneapolis a few months before he passed away and that was one show i will never forget. the man had simply about as amazing a voice as you will ever hear. often misplaced in "the blues" section of music stores, mr hawkins was actually a soul singer, but without string arrangements and horns; he was an acoustic guitar based performer, unlike most soul singers. folk or soul, or whatever you want to label it, his music is electrifying because of THAT VOICE. this recording is his best. his version of jesse winchester's "biloxi" is spellbinding (and here the producer must get some credit for the tasteful overdubbing of other instruments over ted's guitar strumming). "as long as i can see the light," is another classic take of incomparable beauty. i could go on and on. just get this great recording. you will love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A legend in the making, August 5, 2005
By
This review is from: Next Hundred Years (Audio CD)
I was lucky enough to actually meet Ted Hawkins on the Venice boardwalk in Los Angeles in the early 90's. Indeed, I found him among the other hawkers, sitting on a upturned milkcrate strumming his acoustic guitar unaccompanied. Something in his face, his manner and the way he held his guitar caught my eye. He started playing and THEN he sang. My Gosh! What a voice! A combination of soul and sand and, I don't know... something special. I bought the cassette tape of his music and have cherished it ever since and started spreading the word to my friends and family about this amazing singer. Then I heard he died of complications from hypertension. What a shame!!!! We've lost a treasure, and a legend in the making. Everyone who loves soul, blues, gospel and folk should have Ted Hawkins in their collection. Buy this album and all the rest he made! You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing like it., January 18, 2007
This review is from: Next Hundred Years (Audio CD)
The first time I heard Ted Hawkins it stopped me dead in my tracks. How can something this good linger in obscurity. It's like finding a place deep in the woods with waterfalls and wild flowers that no one knows about.
Well now you know....so close your eyes and take it all in. All of his CD's are good, but I believe this one is the best.

Ted Hawkins sings from the heart and this album proves that. I had the priviledge to see him perform 15 years ago and it was one of the best performances by by a true artist I have ever seen (and ive seen "a few"). A true musician with what was a life time worth of experiences to sing about.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect album, June 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Next Hundred Years (Audio CD)
I learned of Ted Hawkins just after the release of this album, and shortly before his death. It is simply one of the best studio recordings ever, bar none. Buy this disc, learn his life story and listen to the lyrics to "Big Things." After 15 years of listening to it, that one song still makes me cry, every time. If I had to choose 5 albums to have on a desert island, this would be one of them.
