The next level of trance music,
By
This review is from: Next Level (Audio CD)
It has been awhile since I have picked up any new trance cds. To be honest, I needed a breather but now that break is over and I was ready for some new trance music to add to my cd collection. One of the mix cds I bought was George Acosta's "Next Level" cd. I wasn't entirely impressed with his work on "Trance Nation America vol.2" but that can be blamed on the material he mixed. The songs just didn't do anything for me. "Next Level" however proved to be the catalyst to make a impression on me. I went head over heels the first time I listened to "Next Level". To a certain extent, George reminded me of my personal favorite trance dj Paul Oakenfold. Ironically enough George includes a song that Oakey used on his "Ibiza" album, PPK's "Resurrection" but used a different mix. The mix George used had a bigger and fuller sound to it while Oakey used the Space Club Mix. Both mixes are good. I almost forgot how much I loved trance music until I popped in "Next Level" into my stereo. This is what I love about trance music, the heavenly melodies, the raw production, and the occasional angelic female vocals. I honestly think that George can become the next Paul Oakenfold at this rate. The song selection are just fantastic. I love all the tracks, not a single dud. All the songs flows well together thanks to George Acosta's abilities as a dj. I definitely have to say "Next Level" is at this point the best trance cd of 2002 so far.

Acosta does not dissapoint. Acostination for 2002.,

First, I must say I was only mildy impressed when I first put this in. Acosta has been my biggest influence in trance, I know his music intimately, and I have watched him progress into a more epic style. So, I was surprised to hear this was more "back to his roots" so to speak, more in the style of Awake, rather than AM/PM. Upon a second listening session, it clicked. The song selection is just flat out intelligent, creating that emotional buildup time and time again. I was already familiar with several of these tracks (The Sound of Goodbye, Urban Train, Save Me, Such is Life), these tracks were already standouts. Fresh tracks to me that stood out are "Moments are Forever" by Moon Project and "Revelation" by King of Clubs. Cosmic Gate did a flat out ridiculously sick mix of Tiesto's "Urban Train", with their trademark heavy synth lines. Acosta's own "The Reeper" is a nice high energy floor shaker as well. The beautiful vocals in Rank 1's "Such is Life" is a fine way to end the set. Check your pulse if a chill didn't go up your spine.Overall, it appears Acosta has gone back to a more typical progressive trance style, there is less German style trance and epic remixes on this disc than you'll find on TNA 2, AM, or PM. His best mixing job is still on PM, his most epic work is on AM, and as far as I am concerned, nothing has dethroned Awake yet, that is just a f'n masterpiece. Any Acosta fan and any progressive trance fan should pick this up. The standout tracks make it well worth the money, and overall it is a nice progressive mix to give you that Euphoric feeling. Acostination for 2002.

NEW STYLE...,
By "orion073" (Miami, FL) - See all my reviews

Acosta's new CD is sort of a mix of everything thing he has done with evolution in mind. New style all together. Smooth trance with a jump; and what I mean by that is that he has moved passed the dark, hard hitting, german-style trance into a smoother yet high energy (jump) trance. I've been a loyal fan of G.A. since his spining days at Shadow Lounge. Like anyone in Miami, I will blindly purchase anything he puts out. This CD is yet another must have for anyone with a passion for trance. Nevertheless be aware, this CD is different and a new style from his AM/PM editions, which were hard hitting and to my opinion, Acostas best work. If you want that kind of experience from this CD, you might be disapointed. Which is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5. New style is good, but George is known to put the crowd on their feet till they can't physically give anymore. and his CD's should reflect that style. I would personaly like to see George rip apart the walls of my house with divine trance like he's always done. but I'm affraid that this time he has chosen a smoother mix. It's still great, and no matter what; he's still the best trance DJ in the U.S.
