When I purchased this item BRAND NEW, I figured it would be a good investment as I am often on the road. The GPS takes a while to locate its signal but is very good and accurate thereafter. What I found quickly though was that my map was quite outdated. One street in Las Vegas was two years old, but not on my map. I contacted Nextar to get an update since I only had the device for less then two months at that point. They would not provide a free updated map - EVEN with proof that it was a new purchase. Instead they wanted to sell me a rather expensive SD Map card. Why should I pay for an updated map on a NEW PURCHASE? Nextar reps did not care and just kept repeating no upgrade was available I could only purchase a new map...they would not even offer a discount.

With many of Nextar's competitors providing FREE updates, I would highly recommend purchasing from a company that stands behind their product....not one that is looking for ways to extract more money from it customers. Again, the device works fine, but it is only as good as the outdated maps. With the many changes in business locations and areas of new road construction, get a device with a company that allows free updates.
