5.0 out of 5 stars great GPS W/rear view camera.
Great GPS and a bonus rear view camera (color)... GPS function is easy to program and works great. Rearview camera needs to be adjusted to view as close to the rear bumper as possible... Had to make a special bracket to accomplish this.... now in my van I see 1 feet behind the rear bumper... I would recgomend this GPS and rearview camera to any one that has a VAN...

1.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for!
I should of known it was too good to be true. This product, and the so-called help from the manufacturer is a joke. I can't get my money back for this sub-standard product, but I can sure write a review that will maybe save someone elses hard earned money. The back-up camera was the first thing that didn't work. Had a person that installs them for a living try to install...

I should of known it was too good to be true. This product, and the so-called help from the manufacturer is a joke. I can't get my money back for this sub-standard product, but I can sure write a review that will maybe save someone elses hard earned money. The back-up camera was the first thing that didn't work. Had a person that installs them for a living try to install it, and even HE couldn't get it to work! The company REFUSED to replace the camera! The GPS system itself, is completely outdated in regards to the maps. Fifty percent of the addresses that I try to enter will not work, no matter HOW they are entered. NO SUCH ADDRESS, is the usual response. And go on their website and look for the the map update it promises you will be available in the product brochures, good luck finding that! No updates, and NO reason why. Save your money, buy AMYTHING but products by NEXTAR. Never again!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad if you can find a bargin price, October 13, 2008
This review is from: Nextar I4BC 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with Back-up Camera (Electronics)
This is not a bad unit, on par with my Verizon Navigator that I had on my phone but without the $10 service charge and air time that I had to pay Verizon. Don't fall for the back-up camera, it's only a gimmick especially if you live in the north where you get some chilly fall nights that mix with the heat of the day and causes condensation on the camera lens, or if your like me and wash the vehicle alot. The Condensation renders the camera completely useless. I'm going to try to dry it out with a hair dryer and see what happens. Also the antena causes some problems, once in awhile you get static, (picture noise) but that only happens very seldom since initial installation, it has pretty much corrected itself with more use, it could be a problem caused by the condensation. The installation was not a problem because it was done professionally and all the splices where soldered to insure good contact.

As the title says, if you can find it at a bargin price, it's a good deal but if you can find a better unit at the same price without the back-up camera and more features then I would go with that unit instead.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great Idea pathetic execution, December 8, 2008
This review is from: Nextar I4BC 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with Back-up Camera (Electronics)
Got this from another vendor for what I thought was a steal. Had it delivered and opened it up and charged it for 4 hours. Flipped the switch on the back, pressed the power button, set the date and time and location. Mounted it on the bracket (flimsy) and typed in an address. The voice that came out of the speaker sounded like the cheapest walkie talkie voice I've ever heard. It seemed to find the signal quickly and gave me good directions and named the streets as I drove. Pressed the power off button and went inside the store. Came back out, pressed the power button and the screen came back up frozen. Turned it off and then back on and the same screen came up. Turned the on off switch on back, I guess this is a reset as the set up screen came back up, set the date, time etc all over again and plugged in another address. Tinny sounding voice told me where to go and got me there okay. Turned it off on arrival and upon turning it back on the screen was frozen again. Called the 800 support number and was on hold for 20 minutes before a foreign voice came on and offered me absolutely no help besides offering to send me a mailing label so I could pay to ship it back to them. I did find out I could bring it back to a local auto parts store for credit which I immediately did. On a side note, the menu is terrible on the screen, terribly hard to see, you cannot change the fonts. The box this one came in showed a $600 price on it, I paid just over 1/6 of that including shipping and based on what I saw I over paid. The bracket for the GPS is flimsy and not very changeable. The GPS gets mounted to the wireless camera receiver and then to the bracket. I never did get around to mountin the camera as the GPS itself was a POS. The web page for the GPS had an update flash but I could never tell if the one I received needed it or not and the lady on the support phone couldn't understand my question. I am seeing this model marked down all over the place. I suppose if you used an external speaker and got one that didn't freeze up it would be a great thing to have. I wanted it because I mounted a camper on my truck and can't see out the back window. Guess I'll mount a stand alone wireless camera and keep my old GPS.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nextar GPS with backup camera, August 1, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Nextar I4BC 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with Back-up Camera (Electronics)
I really disappointed with this Nextar GPS. First of all its LCD screen is not bright enough to view in day time even if you have set the brightness at maximum level. The picture of backup camera it too poor. Even a 20 Dollars nanny camera may be better than this. The camera connects to the GPS via wireless connection but the technology used for it is old analog one, not digital. The result is if you put your car in reverse gear 10 times it may show you the poor back view 6 times and misses 4 times. I have used many other GPS units all of those have a facility that when you slow down the speed, the map on LCD automatically zooms-in and when you go fast it zooms out. But this Nextar GPS has nothing like that. Very bad experience and I have returned it back.

1.0 out of 5 stars not recommended, August 29, 2008
This review is from: Nextar I4BC 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with Back-up Camera (Electronics)
I usually do not write reviews, but this time I feel it is my duty. I must say quality assurance for this company is extremely poor. The first time I used it, I thought it was quite easy to use. The UI for the GPS function was well designed (but you cannot listen to MP3 while using the GPS, and it sometimes blanks out probably thinking that the backup camera has turned on). After a couple of months, the device started making ticking sounds and then ceased to work. I had it replaced, but upon arrival the new device would freeze after a few touches on the screen. I had it replaced again. But after a couple of weeks the device started to repeatedly reboot during operation. Now I cannot even turn it on. This is a great disappointment. I had to pay for the postage, insurance, and delivery confirmation every time I returned a product.

1.0 out of 5 stars JUNK!!! DON'T BUY, February 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Nextar I4BC 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with Back-up Camera (Electronics)
I purchase this item last year and only used it 5 times. It was a waste of money. It didn't tell me when I was supposed to make a turn until after I passed the turn. The untit died without having it for a year. The company said it was nothing they could do after 1 year. $400 down the drain. Stick to TomTom or Garmin

The li-ion battery (inbuilt) stopped working and the unit just wouldnt charge the second day.
I used it for another day with battery-power cord connected. After that even the power cord wouldnt work and the system would just switch on and go off again. Thats how I blew $200+
