I can understand the frustration other reviewers might have had with this player -- for the first hour I felt the same way. The written instructions are so bad they're laughable, but once you pick up the basic button functions there's not much else you need to know. Just look at the pictures, don't try to understand the written instructions. I love the size of the screen and had no problem with the video converter (in fact, I use it to convert many videos to avi even if I'm not putting them on this player). And at its current price I don't know of another player with this size screen, memory, and SD add-on. Great for watching movies, clips, or anything you throw at it that it can convert to AVI. I'm surprised at the decent quality of radio reception (note that you have to use the headphones to use the radio because the headphones act as the antenna). Great for sharing pictures with friends. One drawback, it seems that only the supplied headphones will fit in the player . . . other headphones do not seem to go in the provided hole. Maybe there is an adaptor to make other headphones work. So I don't use this for mp3 play because the headphones are only average (recommend the Creative Zen for mp3 play). Also make sure you have the USB cord fully inserted or else you can't add files. Once the USB is fully connected, you can add the files with drag and drop (for video files, after using the converter). But I can't say enough about the size of the screen and the ease of adding movie files. Did I mention how much I love the size of the screen?

Huge Screen, low price, long battery life. Excellent value for the money. Screen is a little dim even on the brightest setting. Depends on what you're watching but sometimes night scenes are a bit murky. Navigation is difficult, you have to hit the power button a couple of times for it to start up, the SD card is kind of tough to seat. I use my fingernail to push it down into place. If you have trouble with the conversion software that comes with it, do an internet search for vidrop, a free program that will convert movies to various players such as this one. This is an excellent price for such a big screen. I only use this to watch movies when travelling. If you're not familiar with this type of player you may be disappointed in the picture and sound quality. This is not an I-pod. If you are familiar with this type of player then you will be amazed at getting such a giant screen for such a low price. I've had mine for 6 months with no problems.

I got this last Thanksgiving at $25 shipped. I read the reviews and kept my expectations low, but I bought for a 4 year old to watch Scooby Doo during the 500 mile trip to and from daddy's house for visitation. Ding! Winner. Somehow it has survived a full year although I am not sure how much longer that will be. 2 complaints. 1) There is no sleep mode so if you pause a movie while making a chicken nugget or taco stop, you just lost your place in the movie. 2) Not really a complaint I guess, but the 2 GB limit on SD cards is pretty weak. Still you can save quite a bit between the on-board storage and the extra SD card. So bottom line: if it goes on sale for $25 again, get it as a cheap distraction for your younger kids for your next road trip!

I got one about 2 years ago. I had it Thursday at the doctor's office and ran fine...had it in my pocket with my camera, and today went to get it, and neither my camera or my T30 work, and my T30 has a cracked screen. I am generally very careful and don't remember any rough use, but they both don't show a display. So now I have bought another T30 from a vendor here.
Great little device....just be EXTRA, EXTRA CAREFUL WITH THEM!!!!!!!!!!

Still looking for another Cobra Digital PT2000 Camera...

I have had my Nextar PMP for just over a year and I have had not one problem. Out of all the toys and gadgets I have ever purchased, this is my all time favorite. For under $50 I got everything I could ever want in one fun, easy to use PMP. You would not believe the people that see me using it, on the plane, waiting in the Dr's office, waiting for our table in a restaurant, at the hair salon. Name it I don't leave the house without it. At the salon, the girls will ask what I'm doing on it today. It's so cool to be able to say, watching a movie, reading a book, listening to music or looking at my vacation pics. It charges fast, the battery lasts a good while and the conversion software is quick and esy to use. I read other people's comments, listing problems and how hard it is to use and I am shocked. I would and do recommend this "GEM" to everyone. Folks can't believe the versatility, they are shocked at everything it does. The screen is the largest out there for this type of device. I have one issue and that is that the auto page scrolling feature, even at the slowest rate is too fast and I'm a fast reader. Hopefully they'll have that corrected before I have to order my next Nextar. Thanks for a great product.

This player works fine, and it was available at an excellent price (Edit: I bought this player for $30, which is much less than the current price as I discovered when I recommended it to a friend. ). I would recommend this only to people who are comfortable working out how to operate a confusing interface without instructions and have already have a good understanding of how to convert videos to different formats.

- USB cable is very difficult to seat the first few times. Push hard and it will work.
- Headphone jack is smaller than normal. Headphones with the correct jack and an adapter are included.
- User interface is terrible. Very non-intuitive, buttons change function in different parts of the interface and some actions are only available by holding a button. Documentation is not helpful either. If you're willing to play with it and figure it out, then it works fine.
- Video conversion program must be downloaded and is just a wrapper for mencoder with specific options. If you're comfortable using mencoder, then you can convert just about any video to play on this player.

+ My 4 year old is able to operate the player after seeing how to do it a few times.
+ It has an external speaker.
+ Charges through USB.
+ 4 GB is enough for more hours of video than the battery lasts.

Anyone can work the player with just a little knowledge of the buttons and how they work. I figured it out without reading the documentation. I have put several movies on an sd card and installed it in the player. our children enjoy watching these while we are driving or somewhere they don't have a TV available. We have just bought a couple more for this purpose. The player has a good screen and plays the movies back with out a problem. you do have to use the converter program to convert the video to the format the player uses, but this is not that big a task. The player also plays FM radio, MP3 audio files, and displays pictures. The screen is a good size for personal movie viewing but considerably larger than smaller MP3 players. If all you want is an MP3 player, you should get a smaller one than this. If you want a movie viewer, at this inexpensive price and the way the player works, this is a great buy!

I found this to be a good solid player that does everything I need. I was looking for a low priced, large screen player for holding business presentations and the occasional movie. The other devices the a similar size screen started at $100 and went up. I got this for $40.

The controlls are a little sluggish and using the volume up and down keys to move up and down on the file menu and the play button as the select took me a few tries to figure out but, they make sense because of their location on the right side. The FM radio has a hard time picking up stations while the screen is lit but if you know the station you want it will usually pick it up clearly after the screen goes black. It is very thin and light weight. The sound quality is decent out of the external speaker and can be heard easily in a quiet room. The sound is great when using headphones.

It only plays AVI files, but the included conversion software is simple and easy to use. It converted most of my videos to the proper size with a good quality. The ones that didn't work well were of questionable quality before the conversion. The picture is great if the video starts as a good quality video.

Overall I am very happy with this device and the minor annoying things are offset by the large screen and low price.

appearance - i like the way this looks, light, easy to use and big screen
durability - i rated this 3 star simply because the case is made of plastic
ease of use - i havent read the manual yet but i can easily navigate through the menus
sound quality - sound is ok for me, if you have another headset you can use the supplied adaptor to make it work for the nextar t30

the only complain i have for this item is the time it takes to convert the videos. a normal 2 hour movie takes around 20-25 minutes to convert it to avi files.
NOTE: avi file resolution should be 320x240 for it to work in nextar t30. if the file size is not 320x240, it will be recognized as an error file format

first,you need to download a cd to translate videos.the problem is the cd is 2-3 inches in diameter! didnt work in my cd player-called Nextar tech spt-no help
touch screen-if you have normal(big) fingers-it works sporadically
returned it-good spt by Amazon
