Amazon changed the product page. Previously my review was for the 7-inch model running Android 4.0. But now the product shown is the 8-inch model running Android 2.3. Use caution when you shop.

Original review follows:

Talk about massive confusion! Currently there are three different "Nextbook Premium" 7-inch tablets from E-Fun, in addition to another four that are just called "Nextbook". They all advertise similar features such as: 1GHz CPU, 4GB internal flash, micro-SDHC slot, 7-inch display, etc. But there are some important differences:

- Nextbook Premium 7: Runs Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), 256MB RAM, capacitive touch screen with resolution of 800x600 (4:3), no camera.

- Nextbook Premium 7SE: Runs Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), 512MB RAM, capacitive touch screen with resolution of 800x480, has a 0.3MP front-facing camera.

- Nextbook Premium 7S: Identical to 7SE except it come with a resistive touch screen. (This is the model currently found in a discount chain that ends with 'Lots')

On paper, the Premium 7SE looks like a great bargain - especially since it comes with the latest Android operating system. In practice, however, you also have to deal with its limitations:

1. The battery life is pathetic. I benchmarked it by playing a 2-hour video with WiFi off, brightness and volume at 50%. The battery level dropped from 100% down to 23% by the end. That implies its battery life is under 2.

We have had this tablet for a month now mostly used for our kids. Does it preform as fast and have the same display as the galaxy tablet? NO but it is very impressive for a $100 price point. The screen is responsive, crisp, and good size. The battery life so far has been great about 5 hours on games, wifi, videos, ebooks, etc while at standard specs. You CAN access the play store so app options are endless. We have a Galaxy and the Nextbook and honestly if you have don't use an IPad or Galaxy tab you won't notice any inferior faluts on it. Id reccomend this over any portable dvd player or Ereader as it can function as boht. For what IT is I'd give it 10 stars. Very happy with the purchase and will buy another one.

Verified Purchase
I got 4.5 hours playing videos. It was at 18% when I stopped playing online streaming videos off of youtube.com using the Wi-Fi.

The order description on Amazon said it was the Android 2.3 operating system which is Linux-based with 256 MB of RAM. When I noticed the photo of it on Amazon had the Android Ice Cream Sandwich logo in the top right of the box. That model, which had just recently begun to be marketed, is designed to run best using DDR3 SDRAM, 4GB, and 512MB RAM. I queried the seller (it works) and that turned out to be the one they were selling, not the older version in their description.

When it arrived it was exactly as they had said and is 4G capable and comes backwards compatible and supports 3GP, AAC, AVI, BMP, DAT, FB2, FLAC, GIF, JPEG, MKV, MOV, MP3, MP4, MPEG, OGG, PDB, PNG, RM, RTF, TXT, VOB, WAV, WMA.

The processor speed clocked at around 1GB. It has a built in front facing camera, which I found of limited use since I'm not a Narcissus. At first I thought it made an expensive mirror - until I priced mirrors. It is able do video streaming very well and has about a 300 foot Wi-Fi range around my house (got a verandah) but have found it less at other places which may just be the strength of their signal since it varies from place to place.

All these areas of this paragraph are non-issues to me, but it is FYI for you. - It supports the GetJar Appstore and you can install the Amazon Appstore. It has a basic sound capability, but plugin speakers fixed that for me. The touch screen lags a little but only if you are tapping out fast demands to it. When I sit down with it I'm reading, so it's not a problem. When other people `borrow' it to play games they find it too sluggish even though it has 512MB RAM.

I sed this tablet abut twice a week and powered it only, when battery was less than 30 percent. I left it off the charger and heard a loud noise at night, I discover the following day or so the tablet battery exploded. ( see pic). I did not purchase it on Amazon, but on HSN.
