Book Description

Nexus Archives March 17, 2009
Horatio, Judah, and the Badger have survived their reentry of the Bowl-Shaped World. As they head from outer rim to inner city, the threat that prompted this journey worsens: the Gravity Well is nearing collapse. The Web's population is evacuating in a panic, hoping to escape the artificial black hole. By the time this installment of Baron and Rude's celebrated sci-fi series comes to a close, the desperate trio will fight a powerful, fusionkasting tyrant in mortal combat, Kreed the Quatro will be sentenced to death for the Mars massacre, and Horatio will hang up the Nexus mantle once and for all!

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Nexus and sidekick Judah Maccabee conclude their mission to the Bowl-Shaped World to forestall a galaxy-threatening black hole implosion in the first half of this volume of the 1980s sf-superhero series. Returning home to Ylum, a disheartened Nexus, distraught over the death of his giant alien bodyguard Kreed, renounces his powers and forsakes his mission to execute intergalactic mass killers. General Loomis’ daughters step up to replace him, but they are bent on revenge for their predecessor’s murder of their father. Subbing for regular artist Steve Rude on several of these stories, Paul Smith is no slouch, but Rude’s sleek, streamlined style visually defines Nexus. --Gordon Flagg

4.0 out of 5 stars Nexus: Coming Right up, Volume 9, April 1, 2009
This review is from: Nexus Archives Volume 8 (v. 8) (Hardcover)

The ongoing adventures of Horatio, Judah and Badger continue as they enter the Bowl world. From outer rim to inner city, the impending desruction of the world draws nigh as the Gravity well threatens explosion. Packed with good writing, good art, and some truly kickass space opera, Mike Baron and Steve Rude team up with Paul Smith and friend to give readers a ride for their money.

Combining issues 47 to 52, and the First issue, we can experience Nexus in almost one sitting. Dark Horse does an incredible job of production oand design on these books. Appreciated is the introduction by John Davis, Milton Griep and Michael Martens.

Of all the panels in the book, the one that summarizes Horatio's humanity best is when Kreed has commited suicide. He states after trying to revive Kreed, "I can save the solar system, but not a friend. This job isn't worth a tinker's damn."

That's worth the price of admission.

Pretty deep for a comic book.
