5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, June 16, 2005

Tuku music is music for the soul that will make you smile and dance even if you don't understand the Shona language. Oliver Mtukudzi never disappoints, but this CD is abosolutely fantastic. I have many Tuku CDs, and this one is now my favorate. For a taste of a Tuku performance, listen to track 11, "Tozeza" to get a mental image of the dance Tuku incorporates into his live performances.

This is my second Mtukudzi CD, and I love it. His music grows on me like no other ever has. I recently reviewed Shanda--my discovery of "Tuku" music. Everyone I've played this for enjoyed it, and I'm only sorry it took me so long to discover this wonderful composer/musician/singer. Although it should make no difference, it may interest some readers to know that I am not African-American. Do yourself a favor, and check him out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tuku ndizvo!, March 9, 2008
This review is from: Nhava (Audio CD)
Tuku is the best that ever did it. I did not appreciate his music as much when I lived in Zimbabwe but now that I am abroad, I see what the rest of the world sees. A fantastic artist who is greatness & destined for so much more. If you have never seen him live, you are truly missing out. Shoutout to Kenny Neshamba on the drums & Picky Kasamba on background vocals.

This is really a great album and artist and group. I agree...you don't get tired of his music; it just keeps getting better. Great spirit, rhythm, music. It feeds my heart and is great music to walk to! Tuku music takes me at least 2 listens to get into, and then I love it for good!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Mtukudzi, August 17, 2006

I think this is one of Oliver Mtukudzi's best albums, if not THE best. From the first song (Ninipa) to the last (Dzidziso), you will not want the sound to stop.

I like ALL songs on the album, but my particular favourites are Izere Mhepo, Handiro Dambudziko, Dzokai and Tozeza (which I believe is a remake of his earlier song "Baba" from the album "Shoko"?).

If you're looking to sample some music from this great African artist or add another album to your collection, this is a definite must have. You'll enjoy your purchase through and through.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW Oliver, July 31, 2006
This review is from: Nhava (Audio CD)
This is wonderful CD. There is an ever deeper appreciation for this music when you fully understand the Shona language and get word for word what he is saying especially in the deep groaning of the number 2 track where he pours out his heart weeping over his children who have gone overseas in search of a better life and the longing of those left behind in the empty nest. Powerful and truely a heartfelt condition of the people that can relate to that song.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended, November 24, 2005
This review is from: Nhava (Audio CD)
This is my fourth CD by Oliver M. and I recommend all of them. The others I have by him are: Vhunze Moto, Paivepo, and the Oliver M. Collection. Much of his work is published by Putumayo.

I saw him perform at the Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland OR, USA. People were dancing even though the large outdoor space was quite crowded!

On "Nhava" my favorite tracks are #1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9 and 12.
