Product Description

The Nicholson mill hand file has a rectangular shape and single-cut American pattern teeth on the sides and edges for sharpening mill or circular saws, draw filing, and finishing metals. The file tapers slightly toward the point to ease access into grooves. The file has single-cut American pattern teeth for finishing, sharpening, and deburring, and square edges for filing sharp corners. The tang can be used with an optional handle for secure gripping (sold separately).

Hand files are used to remove material and smooth and shape workpieces. They have forward-facing cutting teeth and cut when pushed over either a stationary or rotating workpiece. Single-cut teeth have single rows cut diagonally across the width of the file. Double-cut teeth have two sets of rows cut in opposite directions. American pattern files have three coarseness grades. Coarse, also known as bastard cut, is suitable for efficient, heavy material removal where finish is not a concern. Medium, also known as second cut, offers average material removal and finish quality. Fine, also known as smooth cut, provides the smoothest finish. Swiss pattern files have eight coarseness grades, from 00 (coarse), 0 (medium), and 1 to 6 (fine to finest), offering a smoother, more precise finish than equivalent American pattern files.

Nicholson manufactures hand tools and power tool accessories. The company is headquartered in Sparks, MD.

This is a well made file, useful for filing guitar frets and iron bars. Also, not as oily as some tools, so Cousin Jessie can eat the cake without getting that weird taste in his mouth. We hope to see him in a couple of months, if all goes well.

I have been a machinist for almosr twenty years now, and have always used/ loved nicholson files. No other file seems to cut as well or smoothly....i had been using the same batch i had for ar least ten yrs (they last a long time if treated well)....and decided it was time for more. Tho they do seem to work well, they are made in mexico. I was surprised to see that stamp on the tang. Thats why they lose two stars. I would rather pay double for hecho en los estados unidos. Looks like its time to find a new brand...

The Nicholson file I received was made in Mexico and is a piece of junk. The metal on the file is soft. The first time I attempted to sharpen an axe head, the teeth on the file were crushed. Save your money.

This little file really moves metal! Easy to produce a razor-sharp point on Musky hooks! The files available commercially can't hold a candle to this one (remember to order a handle as well).

A great draw file made of quality American steel. Have bought two; one for a friend and one for me. Does an excellent job of putting an edge back on your axe or machete. Recommend it to all that need this sort of dependable, portable, sharping ability.

As always the Nicholson files get the job done and have a long life. I am a professional knife and sword maker and I don't use anything else. Great buy!

I do harwood flooring installation. I use this to sharpen the scrapers I use. It is fast and works great. I can put a nice fine edge on the scraper.
