Editorial Reviews

2011 solo album from the Tiger Army mainman. His solo work recalls the vintage American sounds of Honky Tonk and classic California Country from the middle of the last century with a modern twist. Nick's self-titled debut was produced in Los Angeles and Nashville by Greg Leisz and James Intveld, with mixing duties handled by Grammy award winner Jim Scott.

I've been a huge fan of Tiger Army for years and when Nick 13 announced he was going to release a vintage country album, I was really looking forward to it -- never thinking it would take several years to release. I am in no way a modern country music fan, but have always enjoyed music from the origins of country. This album gets back to country musics roots and for this I am thankful. Highly recommend this album and for the price you can't go wrong.

I only heard this cd once and i loved it. This cd is better than any country song you will ever hear on the radio.

When I heard Nick 13 had a solo album coming out I had a pre-conceived idea of what I hoped it may sound like based on his work with Tiger Army, particularly on their slower, country-ish songs. This album does not disappoint, in fact it surpassed my lofty expectations.

Both Tiger Army songs revised for this album are amazing, I was particularly surprised at his new version of "In the Orchard". It would have been easy for him to simply re-record it since it already had a country vibe to it but he went ahead and re-invented it. All of the new songs are just as good and It's hard for me to choose a favorite. Can't wait to see him play these tunes live.

Tiger Army is probably my favorite band of all time...never not liked an album. Nick 13 has one of the best voices in music and always writes really haunting and mood setting lyrics. This guy deserves more recognition. Buy anything he is a part of, you won't be disappointed...Tiger army or solo projects, you really can't go wrong.

I don't think the 2 TA songs needed redone, but whatever.

Okay, so I'm in my 40's and have discovered Tiger Army several years ago. I picked up one of their CD's on a whim, (I never heard of them before at the time.)But I actually found that I enjoyed their music; it was melodic, driving and memorable.

Fast forward to 2011 and the Nick 13 solo album. All I can say is that this man can sing, write a great song and play guitar very nicely. I don't think there is one bad song on this album, it keeps the toe tapping from start to finish. I can't say enough about this release: If you enoy the more mellow side of Tiger Army and songs like The Orchard etc.. you will really enjoy this CD.

The feel of this album is mild to slightly upbeat in tempo. A great soundtrack for a moonlit night. I agree with the other poster who said that if all country music sounded like this, I would be a big fan. But don't be fooled into thinking this is all honky tonk, southern drawl type country music.. It is far from it. This stuff is great.

I discovered nick 13 while watching a country music station. I immediately wanted the cd. I knew nothing about his other music in tiger army which has punk rock aspects. I do think he has found his true calling in country. It is a sound that reminds of Johnny Cash and Duane Eddy combined. It's a sound that was big in the fifties. I highly recommend people give this cd a try.

Nicks soulful voice backed up by a shuffling beat makes this a delightful album to listen to. In a sea of tepid pop crap country Nick has produced a great tribute to this genre of music. Not only that but unlike many of the other great alt country artists he has not adopted a 50's or 60's style, but has given the album a contemporary feel to it. More like this please.
