5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous work!
Nick Garrett, as one of the founding former members of a classical crossover group, Amici Forever, is no novice when it comes to producing emotive music.
He possesses an expressive, velvety bass-baritone voice which is incomparable in style. In addition, he is one of those rare multi talented, classically trained musicians who is meticulous down to the last note...

Very nice CD. Nick Garret's voice is amazing.

His rich vocal style is great. I liked him when he was with "Amici Forever", but this cd shows off his voice. He is beyond singing with a group. Nick Garrett can stand on his own two feet. He does not need anyone else.

I wish to cd was a bit longer, with only 5 songs you start to really enjoy it,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous work!, January 11, 2007
This review is from: Nick Garrett [United Kingdom] (Audio CD)
Nick Garrett, as one of the founding former members of a classical crossover group, Amici Forever, is no novice when it comes to producing emotive music.
He possesses an expressive, velvety bass-baritone voice which is incomparable in style. In addition, he is one of those rare multi talented, classically trained musicians who is meticulous down to the last note.

This album, although a mini, contains an eclectic array of music, including standards like LeGrand's "How Do You Keep The Music Playing" and Bacharach's "I Just Have To Breathe."

Garrett's original vocal renditions and arrangements, based on Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, "Rhapsody In Time," and the "requiem with a twist," "Salva Me" are impressive and affective.

Finally, something of a surprise, or perhaps not so, since Garret is known to admire the Radiohead, is his tribute to Radiohead's "Exit Music (For A Film)." Not since Christopher O'Riley's transcription of Radiohead's music, have I been more pleasantly surprised.

Frankly, after listening to the same ubiquitous songs in every crossover album out there, sung in English, Spanish, and Italian, Garrett's album is a breath of fresh air cutting through the stale fog.

This album reveals Nick Garrett's versatility and ingenuity as a musician, and I am looking forward to his future releases.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sheer Brilliance!, December 11, 2006
This review is from: Nick Garrett [United Kingdom] (Audio CD)
This album is amazing! I was quite overcome when I first heard it. Nick has an extraordinary talent of putting into song, so many feelings and emotions and it is impossible to listen to without being moved by it.
Nick not only sings and plays the piano on this album, but is also responsible for the vocal arrangements on all tracks and the lyrics on two of them as well. He has a great talent of combining classical pieces like Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini with more modern day lyrics, but then, also covers more contemporary songs like the Radiohead track and gives it his own unique touch.
If you've not heard Nick before, go and buy this album - you won't regret it for a moment - it is spectacular....I still find myself lost for words when I listen to it, but the music seems to express just what I can't.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Debut, January 14, 2007

This CD is absolutely FABUlOUS.

1. Salva Me
Now this track will give you chills and goosebumps because of Garrett's increible range and vocal capabilities. The power and prow rooted in his voice are completely exposed in this track, and it's a rare glimpse in the raw nature of his voice in comparision to his more classical tracks like The Pearl Fishers, or his more pop tracks like, How Do You Keep The Music Playing.

2. Exit Music (For A Film)
Can you imageine a cross over, bass-baritone singing Radiohead? Well, Nick Garrett has struck gold with the haunting arrangement, with his deep, unique vocals that make you want to play it again and again. This has to be my second favourite track on the mini-album.

3. How Do You Keep The Music Playing
Originally from the film Best Friends by Bergman, Nick does an amazing cover of this track. I was honoured to have had the chance to hear this track live and acoustic by Garrett when he was touring with Amici Forever. He has the ability to bring tears to your eyes, make your heart race and encompass you in a world of 70s style brought back to life with this track. Absolutely amazing! This has to be my favourite track on the mini-album. :o)

4. Rhapsody In Time
Based on the 18th variation of Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini this track is absolutely gorgeous. You can fully appreciate Nick's style and talents are a pianist in this track. It has a sweet, springtime air to it, that completely reinstates Garrett's talent.

5. I Just Have To Breathe
The Burt Bacharach and Hal David piece is superbly arranged by Garrett, to take on a new shape, and really do justice to its original pice. Like the previous tracks it has all the styles and fashion that make it a recognized Garrett track, with the background piano, and his deep rooted sensual vocals.

If this is a sneek preview of what's to come on his full length album, I can't wait until its release!

You must buy this album for a glimpse into pure musical genius!
