5.0 out of 5 stars Solid representation of his transitional sounds, February 8, 2008
This review is from: Nick Nacks & Paddy Whacks (Audio CD)
I'm a fan of Bare Jr., Bobby Bare Jr.'s previous band and hadn't seen him for awhile, especially his first two albums as Young Criminals Starvation League, but I caught him in concert awhile ago with Dr. Dog and thoroughly enjoyed his set, so I got this, which is the only place you can buy it firsthand, except maybe his website. What it features are raw, beautiful performances of songs that weren't as charged on the actual records and hectic energy that's representative of his live show every night. As such, I can't recommend picking this up enough to the fan, and to the uninitiated, I would say you should start with the first few albums with the starvation league, or just go to one of his concerts, which is even better, I look at this as a souvenir of a great time listening to fun loving, silly, sad, and jubilant alt-country with a punk flair.
