Best for Older Toddlers, Fun game,
By G R "harmonylds" (AZ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nickelodeon Dora the Explorer: Lost and Found Adventure [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
Dora's Lost and Found Adventure is an engaging, fun, and interactive game. The box says that the game is for children between the ages of 2 and 5. This game was a little advanced for my 2 year old daughter, but she still thoroughly enjoyed watching Dora on the screen and had fun listening to the backpack song. We had to guide her through every step and do all the mouse manipulation for her, of course, but it still kept her attention for a short time. However, I do think this game is better suited for children ages 3 and up. I am sure in another year or two this will be one of her favorite games.
Age issue aside, the game is fabulous. The graphics are wonderful, using bright colors and paying close attention to detail. The music is entertaining, and the games are fun for kids and adults. It teaches valuable concepts such as colors, shapes, numbers, matching, and more in a fun, interactive manner. I would recommend this to any parent of a preschooler as an entertaining way to help your child learn. *This review was posted by a member of the Nova Development User Community (NDUC). Dora: Lost and Found fun for my 2 year old but....,

A good, fun game that my 2 year old likes a lot. FYI: Certain mouse-moves in the game are not user-friendly (even for me, a computer teacher). The difficult moves involve using the mouse to pick up a shovel and use it in order to retrieve the prizes. You have to shake the mouse a certain, specific way for 15 seconds (and meanwhile, it's hard to know if you are doing it correctly because there the shovel just hovers in front of the hole without any dirt moving). Other difficult mouse-moves involve using the curser (hands) to shake or move objects. I recommend it with caution.

Head to head with Jump Start,

I purchased Jump Start Preschool and Kinderkarten along with Dora the Explorer: Lost and Found Adventure. I loaded both programs, each on a seperate computer in my home office, and allowed my 7 year old and 3 year old to have unlimited access to both programs. The kids played with both programs, sometimes sharing and sometimes one each. After a half hour, the winner became clear. Dora was abandoned for the Jump Start program. Both the kids are sitting around the same computer sharing the Preschool and Kindergarten program. The 7 year old is showing the 3 year old how to handle the environment and they've been glued to it for over three hours now. I asked my 7 year old what's wrong with Dora and she said bluntly, "it's boring." She then screamed "I got a pet!" and turned back to Jump Start. The three year old is obviously following the 7 year old so I checked out Dora myself and quickly realised it's over-complicated and, yes, boring.
P.S. I signed up with the monthly $8 for the online expansion for Jump Start. Good work to the people at Jump Start! Thanks, Alenn
