5.0 out of 5 stars More Underappreciated Roots-Rock, April 10, 2008

This review is from: Nicknames and Natives (Audio CD)
I root for the underdog. It angers me when great music goes unnoticed while drivel is heard by millions on Top-40 radio. It burns even more when you know that the people listening to that music would like something that you've found, something that radio programmers overlooked for no good reason. It's not as if The Antiques make inaccessible music. It's rootsy rock music. There's been a lot of rock 'n' roll on the radio over the past four or five years. There's no good reason that a band like The Antiques isn't heard by all of those listeners, too. If Wilco can get seven of its songs used by Volkswagen and John Mayer can win multiple Grammys, The Antiques can, too. The songs, like those of Wilco and Mayer, are the rare kind that can get you humming, tapping your toes, and thinking all at the same time.

From the opening, mellow-ish notes of "Down to No. County" through the down & dirty roots-rock of "Pigless" and all the way to the end, you're gonna love this CD. I imagine putting it on while I sit on my deck at the end of a long day, drinking a cold beverage, hoping that the neighbors come over and ask "Hey, can I join you? And who's that playing on the stereo?"
